with less labor, risk, and expense than is

The report referred to shows that the
:actual product of the four acres, plaAtted
by the this season, was two hundred and
seventeen gallons of syrup and forty
, bushel. , of seed to the acre—the seed
weighing forty pounds to the bushel.
The ground planted was part
.of an old
. orchard, - with an . indifli;ent sod.. The
land_ was broken lip in 'April, and planted,
• without Manure,- on the first day of Nay
—the fifteenth or, twentieth would have
been better; the -ground was too cold,
and the seed dillnot germinate until near
ly the first of June, when it grew rapid
