ARTIFICIAL -MAN unE.--At a meeting
of the Oxford Farmers' Club on Wedife - i
day, January 14,1thc following resolution,
proposed by Mr. Mein ano seconded by
Mr. Cloggins, -was carried unanimously;
"That this club considers the use of ar
. acid manure as still`too much limited;
, that Peruvian guano, as standard, is the'
best top dressing •for corn crops; farin
yard manure, guano, nitrate of 'soda • and
bone dust for grass land; .thAjnixed
manures are the best for root crops, and
-that without a liberal use of artificial
manure the present extent'of land in this
country could not be ]dept in cultivation,
as there is nothing that has tended more
to assist high farming than the introducc
tion of artificial manure; and,- finally,
that the decay of the root crop is attribu
table to the lavish application of manures.

TURNIPS.—CoIntiIon turnips may be
sown from the middle. of July to the
middle of August. We prefer the last
week in . July, if the weather is..noi too
dry. Almost every farmer has patches of
rich low ground where the young corn
has been . destroyed by the wet weather
of the past month, and such ground_ is
generally well suited for turnips, if well
plowed and pulverized'. Or, what is bet
ter still,'clear up a piece of new pound
where free from grass and weeds, and
after plowing or well harrowing, sow the
seed at the rate of one pound to the acre
and cover with a brush harrow.
