To MAKE ExCELLENT-SPRUCE BEER.
quarts of boilingliot water; eight
quarts of cold water. In 'the hot water
-add-twenty ,- live-drops-eacirof-the-oils-o
- spruce, sassafras 'and wintergreen; three
cents' worth of yeast.; three. pints of
,inolisses , ; mit. it and )et it stand all day,
then bottle it. • Put the molasses m the'
cold water after the oils are all well
'mixed in the, hot water; add all to the
sweetened water ; last of all add the
yeast. -If made in the ,morning it must
be bottled at night. Half . gobleta of
dock root boiled in the water is healthy.,

DOMESTIC GINGER 11EEtt.-----Two
lona of ginger beer may be made as fol-,
lows: Put two- gallons of cOl, water
into a pot upon the fire; add to- it two
-ounces of good ginger and two pounds
'-of white or brown sugar.—Let•,lllthis'
home to the boil, - ant( continue boiling
for half an hour. Then skin: -the liquor
and pour it into a jar or tub, along wit 1
one sliced lemon and half an • ounce of
cream of tartar.—When• nearly cold, put
. in a teacupful of yeast, to cause the liquor
,to work. The beer is now made; and;
after itlias worked for two days, strain
and bottle it for uso. Tie the - corks down
firmly. •
To - TAKE OUT INK . STAINS.—Ink
stains can readily be washed out in cold
water, if taken before they dry, and par : .
tinily taken out after they dry. Soap suds
will set the color. -
To CLEAN SlLK.—Pare and slice thin
~three potatoes-. Pour on them an half
pint of boiling water, and let it stand till
cold. Strain the water, and add an
"equal quantity of alcohol. Sponge the
silk on the right side, and when haf dry,
- iron it on the wrong side. The lightest
• coloured silk-may ho cleansed and.bright
ened by this process; also cloth, velvet,
or crape.
TEDIPERANd BEER.—Take half a doz- -
en dandelion.roots and two or:three yellow
• dock roots, according to the size, perhaps;
a handful of sassafras root bark, and a .
' large handful 'of hops., • Put in au iron
• kettle with one - gallon water, -- cover - tight,
- :arid boil an hour or '
tnore then strain into
a stone jar; add - water sufficient to make
about twoogallons of beer. When . cool,
add.one cup of the above yeast, and three
spoansfid7ef ginger, and sweeten to-your -
take. - Let at stand about twenty-four
, hours; or until there appears a thick scum
on the top; this skim off carefully, and it
. is fit to bottle. Keep in a cool place.
• -ASPARAGUS.--Keep it cool and moist
• -• on the cellar bottom' till wanted, (best.
".- Iresh.from the garden) Throw it• into
cold water; cut off all that is tough; tie
„bundles . . -Boil it in salted
warm water for 15 or 20 minutes. having
- ;.,:0n1y just enough to cover tho asparagus.
When done take it up with a skimmer,
lay it on buttered toast, and put butter on.
