3Aritnltural. From UM II The Prospect for Prices in 1856. The 13altimore American says: "Some of the Southern papers are urging the farmers to put as much of their land as possible to wheat seed. The Lynchburg Virgiui<on holds that wheat seeding in that State may be continued as la",?ltii . the middle of December, as ext'ellent wheat has often been made east of the Blue Ridge- from December seeding. That high and remunerating prices in grain'will prevail next year the Viryin lan considers beyond a contingency, and yet, it adds, we do not believe from formation received that an increased breadth of land, all commensurate with the prospective demand for and rice of breadstuffs, has been put to seed in this portion of the State. Taking the lowest estimate of the deficiency of ~ rain in England and France, the deficit for the two countries may be p,ut down at fifty two million bushels. As this deficiency 'oust lie made up before the n.txt har vest, the question arises. Whence are those supplies to come? It has been thatascertained tile crops of wheat and rye throu:dnatt the whole of 'North Eu rope also are detivient, and esiteyially iu the Baltic provinces awl the interior of Germany, where flour is at this moment selling at 70s. per sack. In fact, the importations of breadstuffs front these sources and all others, except the United States, including Denmark, Sweden, Spain, Portugal, Italy, and Egypt, it will probably be sufficient to meet the defi ciency of 20,000,006 bushels in France. ramola and the Baltic provinces are not relied on for more than six or seven mil lion bushels, and Italy—from which the exportation of breadstuff; has in fact been prohibited—together with Spain, Portu gal. Egypt, 'and the provinces of the Danube, can scarcely do more titan fur nish the balance, of thirteen or fourteen millions, of the deficit in France.-- [fence, giving the, surplus from these sources to Prance; there still remains there in England, ranging from a capaci ty of thirty to fifty millions of bushels, to fill. For this supply, say forty million bushels be obtained front this country, we shall send more grain to England than was exported in wheat and flour to all parts of the world during the year 1855. Our exportations for that year according to the York .E'conontist, amounted to less than' twenty million bushels. The quota exported to Eng laml, according to the English Hoard of Tra , le returns, was an average of 976, 9311 quarters, or less than eight million bushels.per alumni for the eight years front 18-15 to .1853, inclusive. "If, then, as has been assumed, the wlbri---a-vaitittrle---Aurplus-----e-xported last year from the United Status to every part of the world should be suppliA to En4land, there of course will still re•ndiu a detiCit, And even shun dwe he able to export this required amount, we sliait ha, as last year, without a surplul fur hone consumption at the close of the season and paying fur- Owl purpose pri ces as high as Liverpool. In conclusion, we will merely add the following impor tant' Taut, as stated by the Ir/iv/Won,. It ii ItOW quite too late in the season to talk about increasing the wheat crop of 1851;.. The extent of that matter \Hs determined weeks ago. But the cony Crop of the United State • is more in i p o r. taut than that of wheat. Besides the cop and weal exported, we put the worth of a few millions of dollars into pork . , beef, ; lard ete., tuttelt or which conies from I corn Between this and plantinr time next spring our farmers may calculate their M11 , 1111;08 for prices, and plant accordingly. There can be but little doubt, however, hat what every species of grain and other agricultural produce will Inatig, high pri ces for at least two or three years to come, and how mueli longer no one can predict with any degree of certainty. h will be 1) l u 13 , safe for ou f• •m ,• s to put in the c oming Spring all din cure they Can Mall- Sprillg Wheat fur home consump tion may also he grown with profit.. Barley. pats, peas, beans, etc., will also Insure goud, returns,„an4,,will, . probably supply the place of winter wheat in many families. Therefore, if our farmers are vigilant, and get all things ready for ex tensive tipiing and summer eropS, the whole country will be Vreatly benefited, and the old World supplied witlißitE4.o. Agricultural Improvement At a, meeting of the trustees of the Farmers' High School of Pennsylvania, held at Harrisburg, last week, the plan of the institution was submitted and adopted, a buildirtg committee appointed 19 sitperintend, tle erection of the proper buildings, a treasurer elected, and a com mittee chosen to solicit from the present Legislature an appropriation to aid in the establishment of the institution. [n his late annual message to the Leg idature, (..rovertior Pollock very properly dwelt upon the importance of paying more attention to a : rrieulture, and to this end he suggested the establishment of an agricultural bureau in connection with ...mile of the departments of State, with a view to . secu..im , more efficiency in the eollectionimd diffusion of useful knowl cdgP• agricultural bureau of the Patent ( tli'! 4 e at Wa:hin ton, is or:-inii.ed on such a basis, and 'has aceomplished a great deal of good.
