I then skipped a few rows, and upon the remainder put unleashed ashes. The result' was, that the corn upon which I put nothing was not 9 0 good as that upon which I pat plaster. nor so good as that upon which-I put ashes. Bush Your Tomatoes It is just as sensible to grow peas without btishing thorn as it, is tomatoes. You may grow both in a slovenly sort of a way, if you have plenty of room on the ground: but you can grow either twice ,as well upon something to : support them, and tomatoes are decidedly better grown up in the ai'r, than near the ground, under the shade of a mass of vines.— The best support for a tomato vine is a short bush set firmly in the ground. The branches have room to spread among the limbs and sapper; the fruit.• The plan is much better than tying to stakes and trimming according to our experier. We have tried both ways. - Damage from Insects . _ It is estimated by the most experienced ag riculturiets in the country, that the span worm and chtapillar damagtrour crops to the amount of $100,060 annually. More damage is done by these insects to America,-than all the com bined armies and navies of Europe have per pet'rated from April to November. The dam age committed in France, in one year upon wheat, grapes and potatoes by these insects is estimated as greater, than that which would pay Napoleon's campaign to Moscow. To keep Birds• from picking Fruit As the season is coming on for the &pre- dations of birds, I beg to report my experi ence of last year, when I saved my cherries by hanging up several pieces of tin with strong thread, in the different trees, twolffeces being hung near enough to clash with tho wind, while the bright reflection of the tin in the sun, certainly frightened them away; arid. I, bid, my due share of fruit, which, the preced ing year, I was obliged to relinquish to them. 8o says a New Jersey farmer. ger Tho Editor of the Newark ll'erald is evidently short of "phunds," and in stirring up his patrons says: ."We cannot help thinking how much easier an editor's life might be mado, if hiszencrous patrons could only hear his "better half' scraping the bottom of the flour barrel! To The Ameilean As my nano has been' used in connection witli recommendations of Mr. Myers' Reck Rose 'Syrup, in various advertisements by the manufacturer, beg leave h.; make the follow ing Statement with 'reference to my acquaint nude with the remedy and fens to which I hove imejected it, and the reasons for having intro duced it to the notice of private friends in the community in which I reside, long before the medicine was advertised. I make this state ment freely, because I haVe, as a principle, withheld my name from all patent medicines, and sedulously abstained from recommending them to the public, believing them frequently the spawn of quackery and humbug, and as tending to increase, instead of lessening human disease and. sufferang, w Such, I four,-ia-the-- character of a large partien of the patent pane 'coos of thin medicine•Mbliing age. "Their name is legion," and from their influence, as from the demoniacal, spirits,' wo have' , reason to pray for a safe deliverance. The First Teat.-1 had myseleanffered oc casionally with sudden attacks of Sick Head ache, and. Billions Diarrhea, and I had sought a great variety of curative agents to but little purpose; and suffering from thisdieease (diar rhea) at thietime, I doterniined to test the new Syrup first upon myself. The results•were be yond my expectations. It was so powerful alterative, and the morbie action of the system was changed, and the functions of secretion were restored to a healthy state. It gave lone and elasticity to my system, and corrected the derangement of the digestive organs, and gave me that inestimable blessing—health. This teat was not determined in a weeks or a month; but I took four or five bottles in perhaps as many months. Since that lime I have suffer ed but ,slightly from these derangements. My . Sick I feudache is entirely Cured. • Other Tesic—Finding this medicine eo use ful to myself, I at once gave it to several inva lid friends. About this time, I was earnestly Solicited to give advice in reference to a child, some eight .years of age. This child was severely afflicted with a Screfula.horimr. of a very severe type, the humor showing itself on all parts of the surface, and then suddenly dis appearing. The child was .Very sick, and it was thought doubtful whether she would live The humor resembled black specks of mortified flesh. In addition to some other remedies, a gavo the child this Syrup for about six weeks, whon she had sufficient strength to go ont to school occasionally. The swelling of her limbs ceased, and sbo was restored to health. The family. Seel..that- they.owo--her-life,.with blessing, to my remedies. This test satisfied me that the Rock RUM possessed specific powers fur Scrofulous hu mors. I then.tested it to cases of Cutanc)Ls Eruptions, in Measles, Chicken Pox. Cancer, Sure Alma!), Erysipelas,Salt Rheum, Piles, &v. In all these cases with perfect success., Aftai testing this Syrup for more than a..year, wrote Mr. Myers (October 7th, 1850) enthusi.. astically, not expecting my letter Would be published, that his Syrup was a u - Panliorito," althealing, and I gave him the result of its operationa in several- instances. 1 stated in that letter that " it was invaluable us a remedy in Cutaneous Eruptions,' Erysipelas, Salt Rheum. and ether.disorders, included in the varied faintly of diseases known as Scrofula, &e.,: that in Dyspepsia it acted with wonder— ful efficacy." My opinion of its value for the above named diseases, remain unchanged, end the same us when I wrote Mr Myers in Oct. IcitO. lan not-rpoornmend it Po. all the ills of our suffering fiumaniiv ; bat I unhesitating ly say. that as n remedy for Scrofulous affec tions I believe it superior to any known cura tive agent. . , It has been sufficiently ; to by domestic practice to establish its adaption to extensive usefulness in mitigating human suffering and removing diseases.
