the Carlisle Deposit Bank, the folloWing
resolution, conveying' but a just tribute
to his abilities, was passed at a meeting
of the Board of Directors on the 9th hist,
and has Been handed - us for publica
tion :
Resolved, That we deeply regret
the causo which has induced Mr. Cobean
to amign his appointment as Cashier of
this Institittionoind we candot-part-with
' so valuable an officer, and an associate so
gentlemanly, so kind and courteous,
withotit expresAng our high estiniation
of the many amiable qualities which
have acquired the confidence and respect
of all to whom he is kaown. Since the
organization of this institution, the in
' tercourse between the Board of Direc
' tors and Ca - shier,. has been 'of the most
agreeable and friendly character, and in
the present separation. we feel that we
are parting with the services of an Mil
• cer who' combines perfect integrity, a
thorough knowledge of his duties, and
that pleasing amenity of ,mannt charac•
- tenstic of tt gentleman.

We learn that the "dwelling-house of
— ll Yr. John Stirillerson, on North Hanover
street, was entered on Monday night,
by .some midnight Marauders, who secu
red:considerable booty. but by a lucky
circumstance missed, the most valuable
rpile." The thieves entered the house
through the cellar, and made their way
to the- sitting-room of the family;•without
disturbing the slumbers of any one in
the bouse.• In this room was a secretary
and a trunk, both of which attracted the
attention of the thieves. Ihe
secretary was broken open and a watch
and other articles taken from it. - The
trunk was. then carried into the cellar and

its , contents, not valuable, scattered a
bout, where:they were left till morning.
But lying on top of the trunk, Mr. San
derson going - to beeleft — ha - dokt:
The coat was cast aside as unworthy of
notice in thti anxiety to secure the trunk.
In a side pocket of this coat, which the
thieves- thus neglected,. was a'-pocket
book containing Sfioo ! ' On • the .same
night, as we are informed, the dwellings
of Mr. John Sellers, James Callio and

len into bad hands, and further informa•
tion - from them is anxiously awaited.

known as Capt.. French's . . Expedition,
which was to proceed to the gold coun
try by th'e-Gerland route from :Port La

from,them , were dated San - Antonio, Tex
as,- where they had met with seine diffi
culties, but were still full of confidence .

on Howland & Aspinwall, which Mnj.

As soon as he bad got the wagons and
government surros in his possession he
started Westward, pretending that he
should proceed immediately to El Paso,.to
deliver the • stores to the , government a
gents ; - but nothing hae.been heard from
him since ; and it is -,Supposed that 'he
has gone to the Presidlo del Norte. and
-thence to Chihualma.':' Fears were-en
. 141tained that he has sold- out the goi
• ernment stores, wagons, &c., abandoned
his passengers, fled with the money "ob
tained by his nunterous frauds in-the in
teriar of Mexico.
He was furnished with government
stores, during the whole" time that 'he
travelled with - the train after. it started
_ fpom the. frontier, and -Major Henry
thinks he. forged an order to induce the
'officer in charge of the train to furnish
„ his-passengers with thoarticles -they re
quired on the journey.",
