The American Art Union
This is on Association established in N. York
fur the ercouragemcnt of the Pine Arts. Any .
pesim on paying the stun of fire dollars, be
times a member for the current year and is
entitled to receive a splendid Engraving of some
_pictureoelected by the Alanhgers
executed for the Uniob. Besides that, he hes
-the-chance of receiving one—of-the-Works-of
Art (principally paintings) which are distribute
tad dl the Annual Meeting among all
the members for ills year b7loi, each member
having one share for the sum of five dollars
paid by him. No less than 460 painting ,kl . le-'
sides other works of Art were distributed a•
mong the subscribers in December last. The
engraving for the present year will be after
Mr. LESLIE'S splendid picture of Anne Page;
Slender and Shallow, from Shakspeare's Play
of the Merry Wives of Windsor. Subscribers
will also receive a set of five"' prints after as
many other pictUres by celebrated artists, in
addition to their chances of drawing 0110 of a
large number of miintings and other ,works , of
Art, including Bronze Statues, Medals, Sculp
tures in Marble and Drawings in Water Colors'
to be:distributed at the. August meeting' near
~the eluse of the year.
The Hailer of this paper having been appoin
ted an Honorary SecOtary of the Art Union.

the Supreme Court shall holdtheir offices as fol
lows: One of them for three yerrn, one far six
years, one for nine years, one for twelve years,

Judge whose commission will first expire shalt
be Chief Justice during his term, and thereafter
each Judge whose commission shall first expire -
shall in turn be the Chief Justice, and if two or
more commissions shall expire on the same day,
the Judges holding them shall decide by lot which
shall_be_the Chief-Justice.- Any-vacancies, hap
pening by deaths, resignation on otherwise, ; in
any of the said Courts, shall he filled by ap
pointment by the Governor, to 'continue till the
first Monday of December succeeding, the next
general election. The Judges of the Supreme
'Court arid the Presidents of the seyeral,Courts
of Comminitleas_shall r at- stated times, receive
for - theiFs'ervices an adequate compensation, to
, he fixed by law, which . shall not_ be.diminisheit .
during their continuance in office ; but they shall .
receive no fees orperquisites-of-officeinor-hold—
any other office of profit under this Common

Judges of the Supreme Court, during their con=

monwealth; and the other Judges, (hiring their
emitinuance in office - that! reside within the dis
trict or county for which they were respectively
