ing last, and if we may judge from their man.

From California.
coG Fleming, Esq. one of the patty which
tett this borough about a year ago for Califor
nia, returned home on' Monday last. Mr. F.
brings some beautiful specitnetis of the golden
products of that El Dorado, and gives a lively
account of, the state of things existinrilere.—
Ho reports tile other members of the party who
left here as in good health, and meeting. , with
encouraging success in the objects of their ad
venture. Mr. Fleming we understand intends
returning to California after a short visit to
his friends.
We hear of another party of adventurers
who expect to leave this section of country this
spring fur California, consisting of Mr. Peter
Ritner and Mr. McKeehan, of West Pennsboro
township, Mr. Cooper, of Newvillc, and others.
The emigration to California this season prom
ices to be fully as large as it was last year.
Change in the Ariny Uniform.
The President has issued en order to
the Secretary of War, directing that the
full uniform now worn in. the army, a
blue dress coat with and buff li
nings, band-box hatAti, &c., shall be
thrown aside, and, ilte lindresS frock now
worn shall be the full.uniform, with the
addition of epaulette's, sash, &c., &c., the
removal of which makes an undress uni
form. The dress coat worn by. the pri
vates is substituted by a dark blue frock
coat;. and the fatigue jacket by a short
sack, of light blue mixed, same color and
material now worn. The forage cap for
officers to be worn in full dress, 19,hour
the cover, and with the addition * of the ,
plume now used, according to their res ;
pective ranks. The privates are to wear
a cloth cap, gig top shape, with the addi
tion of a pompoon for parade and full
dress. The new dres's we understand
will shortly be donned by the Companies
at the Carlisle Barracks.

spring work. The plough is in motion
upon every farm. They should not for
got to plant a few fruit trees, and the' la
dies should have an eye to flowers and
shrubbery. Cumberland county will
then in a few years •ttnile like a garden.
