. 1-1 E ;t1 OF SALT RAVER 4OIY 18,1849.
Deat Mr. Ritchie : I can't 'keep from
writing to you no longer. -. I must say
the are getting out, of patience up here in
this Salt river territory: and are begin
' ning to feel a good deal disappointed to
- think General Taylor is holding on to the
• Presidency so long.. I was in hopes af
ter you concluded to stay down there . to
Washington and fight thObattle out, that
you Would a routed hirdout by this time,'
' and gin our party a chance to come back
again. Not that I've got any thing aghr
GineratTaylor ; and I don't say but what
he's a clever sort of a man enough, and
- foot well in Mexido ; and I don't know
but - what he and - the, folks round him is
carrying on the government smooth and
regular. 'But all that's nothin to the pint.
The whole nub of the argument is,
they've got our places, and we want 'em.
"TfifS'Salt river country is . a tires the
pineal() stay in. And we've been wait
ing here now a number of months, ho
ping you would upset the whole apple
cart of the Administration and give us all
a fair chance to pick up the fruit.- But
we've been disappointed. I don't see
ftteo
you are any nearer getting Gineral Tay
lor out of Mae' than you was three
months ago. We've had a number of
meetings up -here about it, add talked the
mud . over, and some of our friends are
quite put out with you about it andfling
. about your being old, and lost your spunk
and don't , fight with the grit you used to.
I took your part strong', and told 'em
'twas no such a thing; if you was older
then you'used to be, you was tuff as a
pitch nett yet, and had as,mnch grit in
you as ever, and - only.wanted rousin to
make you .fight like tt tiger. They final
ly agreed it I would write to you and
par you up, so, as, to make you dome
• down upon the Administration hot and
Leavy, as though you meant to do some
- thing, they'd be patient a little longer.-
4 7 But if not, they'd kick the 'Union' over,
and take up another ORGAN for the party.
I asked 'em how they could better them
seldes by that, and where
. they . thought
they could find an organ to be compared

,
Messrs. A. B. at D. SANDS:-... New York, January 7, MS
431ErirtEsimi,—Having used, and witnessed the effects of your excellent preparation
of Sarsaparilla on different persons in varieue parts of the Southern coming, viz.,
Virginia, LOUlSiana. Texas, an j, Mexico, I feel much pleasure in stating the high
opinion entertained of its gat me al value. In my own case it acted almost
like a charm, removing speedily the en etvated state of the system, and exciting, in
the mint agreeable Manner, a tonic and invigorating influence.
Your Sarsaparilla is highly approved and extensively used by the U. States army
in Mexico, and my cousin, GEN. ZACHARY TAYLOR, has for thepast five years
been in the-habit of using it and recommends the same ; be and myself adopted the
article at the same time, and it is now consideed an almost indispensable requisite
in the army. In conclusion I wopld say, that the better it is known the more highly
It will be prized, and I trust that its health -restoring virtues willmake it generally
known throughout the length and breadth of our widely•extended country. -
Yours very respectfully, TAYLOR, •
U. S. Consul tn New- Granada.

• REMARKABLE CURE OF SCROFULA.
Southport, Conn., January 1, 1848.
Messrs. SANDS : ten Ifflue ympathy-for-the-afflictetLinducesine_to inform you
of the remarkable cure effected by your Sarsaparilla in the case of my — v - it - 1414
was severely afflicted with the Scrofula on different ports of the'body t the glands fq
the neck 'were greatly enlarged, and her limbs much swollen. After suffering over a
year, and finding :to relief from the remedies used, the disease attacked one leg, and
below the knee suppurated. Her physician advised it should be laid open, which was
done, but without any permanent. benefit: In this. situation we heard .of, and were
induced to use SANDS'.sarsapaillla. The first bottle produced a decided and favor
able effect, relieving her more than any prescription she bad ever taken ; And before
she had used six bottles, to the astonishment ancrdelight other friends, she found her
health quite restored. It is new over a year since the cure was effected, and her
health remains good, showing the disease waSthoroughly eradicated from the system.
Our neighbors are all knowing to these facts; and think SANDS' Sarsaparilla a great
blessing.to the ages , Tours with respect, JULIUS PIKE. •

The following testimony from Rev. John ' Grigg. late Rector of the Church of the

OMNTLEMEN—FeeIings of gratitude induce me to make a pablic.acknowledgrnent
of the benefit I have derived from the use of your Sarsaparilla. I have for several
years been afflicted with scrofulous swellings in my head, which at times would
gather and discharge at my,throat, nose ; and ears, and at others would break out in
different parts of my face and head.' These continued until y throat, face, and
head were almost one complete sore, and for a long time I was o °aria that it was
with the utmost difficulty theta could speak above a whisper. Durin s time I had
several attache of pleurisy and other diseases. I consulted different physicians, and
,tried various remedies, but received no benefit until I commenced using your Sarsa
parilla. lam now well ; the sores are all healed, and I attribute the result entirely
to the,effects of yotir valuable medicine. • - •
