The Art Unions
IIIERICAN ART UNION.—TIIIS Insti
tution is the pioneer Art Union of this coun
try, having been established in the city of N.
York more than ten years ago. At the an
nual distribution, on the 22d of December last,
it numbered ,16,475 members, whose subscrip
tions amounted t0i82,375. During the pres
ent year the list of members firornises to be
grcatlytincreased. From d copy of the 'Bulk
tirf' for July, we learn that the subject of the
Engraving for the present year is 'Yotirtr,' be
ing the second picture of Mr. Cole's celebrated
series Of the "Voyage of Life." such them
ber will .also be - entitled - to a volume of Etch
ings, similer to the "Rip Van Winkle," dis-'
last year. The subject-of these etch
ings
is Irving's tale of the`"Legend of
Sleepy Hollow." The Bulletin contains a cat
alogue comprising 157 splendid works, of Art
alread) purchased for the distribution in De
cember next. Terms of membership, $5,
which Insures each subscriber nn elegant en
graving, worth the money, besides the chance
of drawing a prize picture, worth several hun
dred dollars.
