under it but Mr. Woods, who, as the wagon
turned over was struck with such crushing
force by the heavy spring-pole, which was
violently wrebted from its place, that lie was
taken from-the ground in a state of insenAbility

The annual commencement of this ancient
Institution
~was celiibrated on' Thursday last,
with mach eclat. NVe have never seen a larger
atterrlance of spezttvs; , particularly from a
distance, and d Jubt not all Pit richly repaid by
the interesting exercises of the occasion.
On We day, preceding Commencement the
usual addresses were delivered before the Lite
rary Societies, and attracted large audiences.
In the morning the Belles Lettres Fellowship
was addressed by Jon R. Tv soN, Esq., of Phila
delphia, on the subject of " history pro
vi,re a nobjects." Mr. Tyson is well tnown
in the literary us a leading member of
the Pennsylvania ('historical Sociity, and his
address on this occasion, besides being a pro
duction of high polish and elegance, showed
howthoroughly he has mastered the great sub
ject of History. Ills address included a review
of the style itud i pscpliarities of leading ilisth
rians, and although his opinions were doubtless
/ disagreed with in some eases by portions of his
audience, the address wasdistencti to with fixed
attention and pleasure. •
The General Union Society was addressed
in the evening by the Rev. GEOaOE COFFEY, Of
Washington, D. C. Mr. Coffey's address was
of the philosophical order, and charmed Ids
audience by the beauty and brilliancy of its
thoughts"elegance of expressien r and the spirit
and energy •of the Orator's -manner. The

posing the graduating class, are noticed in
a fair spirit of criticism. by a correspondent iii

'udges holding them shall decide by lot, which
shall be the Chief Justice. Any vacancies

first Monday of December succeeding the next
