Celebrations of the Day.
A plentiful "Rough and Ready!' din

anniversary exercises of this Institution is just
at hand. In the high character of the orators

EXHIBITION OF THE HIGH SCHOOLS.—
We were in hopes see one would have sent
us a notice such as it deserved, of the exhibi
bition of the High Schools, on Friday evening
last, as the denseness orthe crowd and the in
tolerable heat did not allhw of our staying to
witness all the exercises of the occasion. •Suc

The general examination of the 'schools

•ITN DER the provisions of the Act of 1834,
U any Bounty Paying intOthe State Treasury
the State Tax levied on such county, prior to
the 17th of July in any year, is entitled to an
abatement of 6 per cout• on the amount so paid.
The , Undersigned, Commissioners of Cum
berland county, in view of the above provisions
consider it equitable and propbr that those who
by the prompt payment of their taxes prior to,
the above date, enable _the Treasuret_to_pay_
over the State Tax, so as to receive the afore
said abatement of 5 per cent., the benefit of
which has hitherto boon enjoyed by thwcitizens
of the county gOnerally, should be allowed tt
deduction of that amount by the collector—have
'authorized the different Collectors to make said
abatement from the State tax, in all cases where
the State and County, tax is paid to the collector
before' the 17th day of July, 1899, when said
abatement shell amount to one cent or more,
no fractions of a cent to be credited.
Since the Act of '44 the Commissioners have
paid the State tax of tins county annually to ; the
State Treasurer, within the time preacriblid by
the act, and the county has

of the respective districts over which they are
to preside or act as Judges.. And the Associ
ate Judges of the Courts of Common Pleas by

tiVely. The Judges .of the Supreme Court

years, if they shall so long behove .themselves
well : (subject to the allotment hereinafter pro

for their services an adequate compensation,
