Notice to Tax Payers.
.UNDER the provisions of the Act of 1844,
U any county paying into the State Treasury
the State 'Fax levied on such county, prior to the
15th of July in any year is entitled to an Abate
ment of 6 per cent. on the amount so paid.
The undersigned, Commissioners of Cumber
land county, in view of the above provisiona l
consider it equitable and proper that those who by
the prompt payment of their taxes prior to the
above date, enable the Treasurer to pay over the
State tax, se as to receive the aforesaid abate
ment of 5 per per cent., the benefit of which hue
hitherto been enjoyed by tlie citizens of the
county , pnerttlly, should be allowed a deduction
of that amount by the collector—have authorized
the different Collectors to make said abatement
from the State tax, in all eases Where the State
and County tax is paid to the - collector prior to
the 15th of July, )848; when said abatement shall
ainount to one cent or more, no_ fractions of a
cent to be credited.

Since the Act of 1844, the Commissioners have
paid the State. tax of this county annually- to the
State Treasurer, within theiime prescribed - by
the act, and the county has received the benefit
of an abatement of five per• cent'. thereon, but to
meet said payment they have found it necessary
heretofore- to.apPropriate a part of the county
funds to Meet the deficiency occasioned by de
linquents, until the balance of the State tax was
collected. It tht refore bteomes neceasnry to re
quire the payinent of both Slate and County tax
to entitle the payer to the aforesaid abatement,
upon the aforesaid State 'lax.
The undersigned therefore confidently antici•
pate that the above arrangement, and the further
inducement of enabling Cumberland county to
maintain the character for p,omprecas end fidelity
which she hos acquired in - the discharge of her
obligations to the CommomAalth 4 will induce
every citizen to discharge their State and County
tax prior to the 13th day of July.
