tles of Palo Alto and ReSeca - de la Palma are

em warfare for any such triumphs of courage
and skill over numbers„ in the history of
Civilized nations.' Botkiumies were compo
sed of disciplined iroops. Two thousand A
mericans (exclusive of 300 wagoners) disci-

nobly against 7500 disciplined veterans, and
after five hours hard fighting, night separa

.The Carlisle Light Infantry Company was
raised and organized in the year 1784, short
ly after theratification of the treaty of Peace,
of the Revolutionary Wit:fiViTh — Great Britain,
and yet -remains in eistence, thoWilfra
weak and sickly condition ; yet we hope to'see
it revived_ and assume once more its former
vigorous standing. Its valor and_pattiotism
bas been tried and proved in.two campaigns
—one to suppress the 'Western Insurrection' I
ti 1704:—the-Other in the late war'w„.ith Great
Btilain in 1812. On the 11th day of October,
'at 2 o'clock, P.M.. this, then beautiful --com
pany, took up the line of march from this
town, with about 4000 gallant sous of Mars,
under the immediate command of his ExCel
lency, General GEOnCE WASiiINGTON, for the
then ' , Far West!: The Infantry was highly ;
complimented at Bedford, for its true - military
appearance and subonlinathin, by the Com

served by all. or it would not have been
given to the Carlisle Infantry, alone!
After a long and fatiguing march to "hat
Pitt; '—then on the frontier—their service
being over, - they - were ordered to return to
Carlisle, and were honorably dismissed.
Twenty 'years tiller the War' of i 794, - this
company again traversed - the groueil, iii sup
port of the cause which their - tore-fathers had
espoused in 1778; and on the 24th -of Fault-
