There was a report in New Orleans.on
the 4th, said to have been received at one

to be based on despatches (or our Govern.

announce the death of Judge Story, LPL.
D., one of the'Justiceebf thi U. S. Su
preme. Court, end Dane Professor of Law

nesday evening the fOth inst., at a 'quarter
before nine o'clock. His pulse ceased to
beat, and his hands were cold before eight,
P. M. His 'disease was stoppage of the
intestines, or strangulation,-the same sick :
ness which ended the life of Mr. Legere,
in lloiton, in 1848. Judge Story was 65
years of age. He graduated at Harvard
University in 1708, and was appointed to
the Judgeship of the United States Court,
by President Madison, in 1811.. He has
filled a high office in the judicial service Of
his country, and station in the
public eye, and has left ti space which
which will not be easily filled.
