hearing Prolessor i Durbin, I attended there on,
Sunday evening and was disappointed, but had
the satisfaction of healing it announced that he
would preach next Sunday. , --On-this-oceasion-the -
Conference preacher,•Mr. Davis,.gave - us an old
fashioned Methodist sermon. It is on of late
years that this worthy denomination p °nix°
colleges.
A good portion of my time was spent i visit
ing the Common Schools: I fied an excellent
system of grading in operation, as established,
.when the law was first accepted in MO. There
are two High Schools, Male and Penkale; with--
schools 'of- two gnidek below. The Mhle High
School ismi Jib y_s.otidneted, and affords an
English and Mathematical education of the best
character. The - Female High School is alsotred.

neither above nor the average of schools in
