It has given us plestsu're, although we ere not
practieally interested in Farming, to read . the
glowing accounts of Agricultural"rneetinge which
have been held this season in various parts of the
country ; some of which we have published. The
displays of stock and of farming utensils, ace.—
the narrations of individual experience in Agri•
cultural improvements,—the speeches of eminent
men who have attended these meetings, and other
incidents connected with theen .. ,ltaTo given 11a the
highest pleasure to read of, antlmere warmly en
listed our feelings in the great science of Agri
culture, Why cannot an Agricultural Society be
formed in Cumberland county 1 Will not some
competent and energetic individual, whether Far :
mer or, professional man, take the matter in hand
and prosecnte it to syccess ? . -
The subject is certainly worthy the considera
tion of the farmers of Cumberland county, and
.
our greatest marvel is that they haTe so long ne
glceted it. While other counties and other sec,
Lions of onr country, are_deriving"vast and va,
rious benefits from the association oftheir farmers
together for mutual improvement, and the ad,
vencement of OHO of the greatest Interest:3'of the
country, Cumberland county seems to have been
reclining in a state, of apathy or carelessness,
which has thrown her apparently fur in the back
ground. That abUndent Material for all the pur
poses of a successful society may be found in the
mental, physical, and. pecuniary.resources-of our
population, no one Will doubt. Then why for a
moment delay -the adoption of the proper mea
sures for their full development 1 Let a society
be formed, and properly , Organized, upon broad
and liberal principles--call-inintro - press,
