In the Carlisle district the united Minority for
Gen. Miller was 114. He lost ground in the rest
of the county, however, and has been beaten by
Judge 1:4401 probably 100 in Cumberland. The
County Ticket ditto; with the exception 4JC;IIN
• Harr, who is possibly elected. .

Farmer of Ashland, will be the 'candidate of the

than register the edict of the sovereign people in

anxiety by the people. They only are wanted to
rouse the country from that calmness and stillness
in which it passively . exists under the administra
tion ofJohn' Tyler—an adminieration that like
a night-mare weighs upon the breast of the nation,
paralyzing its energies'and crushing its strength.

We have deemed it proper to make these re
marks for the consideration of our readers. after
the election. The 'Whigs now stand on their
own ground agnin—it is their duty to watch
that ground with vigilance and energy. If the
ticket that-we have supported be elected, we [hall

for high and glorious principles...principles that
are identified with the happiness and prosperity

This result is the more gratifying as there is
a United States Senator tb be elected during this
session, in the room of the Hon. John Leeds Kerr
deceased. The Stato is also to be districted for
members of,Pongress, and cannot therefore be
gerrymandered, as tho Locos have done Pennsyl
vania and other'States
This result will cause an electric thrill in the
bosoins of Whigs throughout.the whole Union':
It is a noble victory for' Henry Clay ! The Bal
timore PatriOt says the battle was every where
fought with Henry Clay's name, and for Henry
Clay. Not ono of the sixty Whigs in the Legis
lature but prefers 'him above any other man in
the,•Union for President, arid it may be said with
truth, that not n man who' voted for any one of
these sixty. Whig Legislators; but also.prefers
Henry Clay. .
Tim evidence which the result of this election
gives, of the overwhelming strength of Whigs
whenever they are aroused, must "cheer the heart
of every iiairlet in the Lynd, and by uniting them
for the gicat struggle in 1844, insure the election,
