treaty lately concluded between Great Britain and
the United States, and the general' tendency of
what has been written appears to indulge the
. belief that it is generally considered to favor the
' United' States, arid of course prejudicial tu Great

From what we can gather from. the leading
journals, it is conaideted that England has :made
ninny coneessionit'which are not only prejudicial,,
• but actually dishonorable to her. It is argued
that Great Britain has given up by this treaty
to the Americans, two-thirds of an extensive' ter
ritory; to the whole.„,.of(which recent surveys
prove 'her justly entitled. Again it is argued
that Great Britian„has-virtually acknowledged
the chain, of the United' States 'even ,to the third,
which has been retained by England, because it
is agreed to purchase that third by giving the
people of Maine a right, freely to navigate the St:
John flout its source to its . mouth through, the
British Province of Istewßrunswi ck.
The recent riots in the manufacturing districts
are again about to, attract a good deal of public
attention by the opening or a Special

THE CASE OF JAMES WATSON IVEDD, indicted
for a Misdenicanor in leaving the State to fight a
duel, came. before the' New York Court of Ses
sions on -Wednesday the 12th inst. - Col. Webb
pleaded guilty to' the charge, and stated his hav
ing declared his intention before fighting, net to
take the life of his antagonist, in proof of which
a letter to E. W. Hoskin was produced. He
said the law under which he was. indicted, had
long
,been a dead letter,' and had only . been reviv.
od to persecute him. The District Attorney stated
to the, Court that Los ould move for judgment
against Mr..Wchb on Tuesday morning following.

sudden and unexpected death of this amiable woman

all who knew her, a sail and most mortilid sensation.
She was so yoUng, so generally beloved,

with so many loving frieials, and withv so nmeh to
render life desirable, and all this in a station which

would long live to adorn. But however unexpect
ed by her friends, her death wee long and steadily
anticipated by herself: For mooths previous she
had an abiding; presentiment of speedy dissolution,
and prepared for its approach—making her last ar 7
Tenements in reference to this world, and studying
to establish:her peace with God. Her impressions
she communicated-early to her friends, to prepare
'them for the sad event.. She listened patiently to
the hopes and arguments they suggested in Iheor of
her returning health, but never gave up her persua
sion of approaching death. She continued also to

were truly peaceful—and when the solemn moment
