-passed a bill for the collection of direct tax
es, in the .present liabilities of the govern
ment,- hereby creating at once a mixed cur
rency. Another . bill has passed the same
body* thorizing a new issue of govern
meta money, to be called "Exchequer
Bills," to the amountvof $150,000, which
hills are to be paid out for the support of
the government for 1842. and.are to be xe
ceived for custom house dues, as gold and
silver.
