The fire occurred at the Fisher Bros.' well No. 2, on the Wallace farm, and caused the death of Daniel McLaflerty, an employee of the Philips Bros. The night was a very calm one, and the gas escaping from the well settled close to the surrounding ground. At about ten o'clock that night McLafFerty had occasion to pass with a lighted lantern within one hundred feet of ttie well, when an explosion occurred which set tire to his clothes, and burned the hair from his face and head. lie ran for the creek, but was overtaken and the flames ex tinguished, but he had breathed the flames aud died in great agony next day. The llames following the explosion immediately ran to the well and set tire to the derrick, boiler house and tanks, which were soon cousumed, and when the well began flowing the flames lit up the surrounding country for miles around.
