[Attleboro Chronicle.] Carry Hie News. Mr. John Etzenperger, manufactur ing Jeweler of North Attleboro', Mass., lately communicated to us the folowing: I suffered 90 much with pains in ray »rm, that »t times I was complete ly helpless, i used that incomparable remedy St. Jacobs Oil and was com pletely cured as if-by magic. A Beggar in the streets of Fargue claims that he was born in 1767, and is therefore, the oldest man in the world. Peruna by giving health ako gives beauty. Bodies of people drowned in Lake Tahoe never rise to the surface, the water being so cold as to prevent the formation of gases. At the change of every season slugishness of the blood should be pre vented by taking Peruna While the British crops are being spoiled by rain, many of those in this country are ruined by drought. The opposite shores of the Atlantic can exchange commiserations : it is a pity that they cannot exchange weather. polygamist, is proving to be more profusely married than even his dearest foe dare hope. Mrs. Marvin number fifteen has just turned up. How many more wives this queer man has scattered through the country, only time can tell. When a sivdollar-a-week clerk gtraddles his nose with a pair of eye glasses, spends a week's salary for a diamond pin and goes into the country to astonish the natives, he is doubtless surprised to find that he is not so much of a curiosity as a hand-organ monkey in a calico overcoat. 'Any letter for me ?' asked a young lady of a postmistress in a country town. 'JJo,' .was the reply. 'Strange,' sa|n the young lady aloud to herself as she turned away. Nothing strange about it,' cried the postmistress through the delivery window. 'You ain't answered the last letter he writ ye.' A RAILWAY ON STUMPS— In the upper paft of Sonoma county, Cal., a railroad traek crosses a deep ravino upon the upright trunks of tail trees, %hich have been sawed off upon a hor izontal line. In the center of the ra vine a firm support is furnished by two huge redwood trees which have been lgrped off seventy-five feet above the ground.. bn a theory that human be ings were made to stand upright, and therefore ought never to lie down, a Californian sleeps in an apparatus which sustains him comfortably in a perpendicnlar poaitiou. A Nebras ka physician is equally certain that the vital organs are injuriously affected by being jolted downward in walking, and to counteract this he gravely stands on his head five minutes every day. Some unexpected dangers of picnics are illustrate! by the experience of young Patrick Stanton, who went to a picnic there met Miss Lambert, with whom he danced, after which pleasure he got drunk and went home. A few days later he was Informed that during bis intoxication he had married Miss Lambert; and now she produces the the clergyman's cetiftcate and flaunts it in his face. Patrick's history should be V .warning even to occasional as well a habitual picnickers. Every decent American will blush to read the following from the Quincy (111.) Herald: 'We believe Guiteau to be just as honorable as the man be shot, and a mighty sight less danger ous to the country at large than the plausible, smooth-tongued, unprinci pled man who, with a sniffle and a pious groan, will tarn frooi a prayer ty ttfce a! bribe, commit a perjury or steal a presidency.' Where is Cook, the man who slapped the face of a scoundrel who wished the President would die ? %6AT alleged negro "crank" who was arrested before the White House the other day with a tin pail on his arm, in which he avowed bis intention of placing the heads of all of Garfield's enemies,.is only less selfish, not more insane than the average political boss of the day—Mr. Conkling, for example; though he carried no tin pail on his arm, he is more persistent and more systematic in his hunt for the heads of hia enemies than was this unfortunate colored man.— Cleveland Herald. Thirty miles of seals were traversed by a vessel lately arrived at Victoria, in British Columbia. It is the year in which the big inhabitants of the main —whales, walruses, seals, sharks—are showing themselves with unwonted familiarity and in great abundance within catching disttance of inhabited regions. As Dame Nature is famous for her compensations, pres ently we may hear of some Western locomotive driving its wheels with difficulty through thirty miles of moths, getting ready to destroy the furs that shall be made out of the thirty miles of It becoming very fashionable, with certain newspapers, to speak of tfaAr Secretary of State as the "Premier" oft the Administration. The term, we need hardly say, can be found neither in the Constitution nor in the Revised Statutes of the United States, and it has "a meaning quite foreign to the spirit of our institutions. The various Secretaries who form the President's so-called "Cabinet" are mere heads of Executive Departments, and the State Department has no precedence over any of the others, except in the fact that it has come to be considered the hifbest poet in point of honor in the President's gift. LEMON JUICS IN DIPHTHERIA. —Dr. I. R. Page of Baltimore, calls the at tention of physicians, in the Medical Record, to tbe topical use of fresh lemon juice as most efficient means for the re moval of membrane from the throat, tonsils, etc., in diphtheria. He states that in his hands it has proved the best agent that he has as yet tried for the purpose. He applies the juice of the lemon to the affected parts every two or three hours by means of a camel's hair probang In eighteen cases in which he has used the remedy the effect has been all that he could have wished. He finds that several of his professional brethren are prepar ed to give the same favoiable account of the remedy. It is impossible for a woman after a faithful course of treatment with Lydia E.
