girl, Rebecca Parker, recently abducrqd from

allegation and abundant evidence that she is
free, was taken up, and elicited a lengthy
and animated debate which occupied the
w hole of the morning.
The resolution finally passed, and the House
adjourned.

in a protectionist speech, alluded approvingly
to the conduct of Louis Napolon.
At Holmesferth Yorshire, u large reservoir
recently burst, occasioning, heavy Goods and
much damage to the factories. From 60 to
100 lives are reported to have been lost by
accident.
The Socicdy of Friends separated in New
York, in 182S, and both divisions have been
continued ever since: At the time bf the sep
aration, property amounting to some S50.G00
was adjudged by law to belong to the division
known as Hicksite. The Hicksitcs at their
lust meeting, agreed, after a full considera
Uqii of the matter, to pay over to the other
division, commonly called Orthodox, 825,

property at the time of the separation, which

A singular and painful accident occurred
on Wednesday morning last, at Huling's
Mills, on Mosquito creek, about six miles
from this place, the particulars of whkh as
near as we can glean, are as follows: Two
men were employed in the mill at which the'
accident accurred to superintend tlje, siwing
during the night ; Mr. John Henry, faking
his turn at work, from 12. o'clock unl2 day
light. Having been awakened at midnight,
a3 usual, he went underneath the mill fr the
purpose of arranging some of tho gearirg pre
paratory to pursuing his night's task, when
unfortunately slipping, his light was ashed
from his hand,-und in his endeavors td grasp
at something to support himself and rrevent

of a cog-wheel which was slowly revolving

his arm crushing his strong, muscular hand
like a wafer, entirely . severing the bone above
the wrist, and mangling him in the most hor

wife awakening from a frightful dream, and
seeing no light in the mill, heard him moan
and discovered him, and arousing the neigh
bors at five o'clock, after considerable diffi
culty he was released from his frightful cap
tivity. His arm was amputated on. Wednes
day by Dr. 1'homas Lyon, from whom we
gather these particulars, and who now has
the mangled limb at his office. As late as
yesterday we learn that Mr. Henry is in a
fair way of recovery from the terrible acci
dent and exposure to which he was subjected.

There is every reason to believe that four
persons have been killed, and the number of
