MORTON M 'MICHAEL, Chairman. James Traquair, Secretary pro tern. WorKing-iTIeii Aho$! It is high time working men of Pennsylva nia by which we mean farmers, manufactur ers, merchants, mechanics, tradesmen, laborers, every body in fact but rich or poor loafers, who won't work if they have a chance to take active measures to have ihe doctrine of Protection to Home Industry .to-incorporated in our Tariff Laws It is geuing to be clearer ev ery day, ihat they must either put down iho Tariff of '46 or be put down themselves. Both cannot stand together. Under the present sys tem Great Biitain is the workshop for Ameri ca. The money that should siay here to keep our people employed, is sent to England to en rich British manufacturers and working-men. The policy of the day is to import British iron and export American gold. There is but one way to arrest the evil. It is to call meetings in every city, town and vil lage, in favor of increased duties of the great staples of Pennsylvania to pour petitions day after day into both Houses of Congress to write letters to our representatives and to show them that we are in earnest. It must come to that at last, and the sooner wo begin the soon er can we hope to succeed. We do not urge this as a party, but a Penn sylvania measure, It concerns all Whigs and Democrats. --The two parlies have a sufficient number of exciting questions to discuss, with out quarrelling about the propriety of a meas ure so vital to their interests, in regard to which they bhould be of one mind and one" heart. So says the Reading Journal, ai d we heart ly endorse it. Several large and valuable tracts of coal land, situated in the Lackawanna and Wyoming val leys have lately been purchased for this com pany. From tho fact that these purchases have been made, it is 'nferred that the company will soon construct its railroad. This company is belter known in this region as ihe Drinker company. By its charier it is authorized to make a road from the Lackawan na valley, at or near Harrison, through Cobb's Gap, to the Delaware river, a short distance above the Water Cap, at which point it is de signed to intersect a railroad, for which a char ter has been granted, to run across New Jer sey and terminate in the vicinity of the ciiy j)f New York. At Harrison the Sommersville railroad, when finished, will form a junction with the Leggett's Gap railroad, now constructing from that point, through Susquehanna couniy, to the line of the N. York & Erie railroad in the valley of 'he Susquehanna river. The Leggett's Gap com pany own the railroad between Owego and Ithaca, thereby furnishing a connecting link between the Susquehanna valley and Cayuga I5ake. Of course the Company must connect iheir two roads, which can be done either by extending their main railroad from Great Bend to Owego, or by making an arrangement for the use of the New York and Erie railroad be tween the two places. In either case the com pany will have the advantage of an unbroken line from Harrison to Iihaca, and will be able to supply central New York either from Bing hamton by way of ihe Chenango canal, or from Ithaca by way of Cayuga Lake. ' When the railroad of which we have now spoken shall be completed thay will furnish a continuous line from New Yoik through the heart of the coal and iron region of this state lo Cayuga Lake.
