The testimony in its favor is overwhelming.
The proprietors are daily in receipt of letters
and certificates, going to prove its remarkable
efficiency to all cases of worms, both in chil

immediate improvement of health which follows
its use, has called the attention of physicians

OLD DR. JACOB TOWNSEND,
THE ORIGINAL DISCOVERER OF TIE
Genuine Townseni Sarsaparilla.
01 & Dr. Townsend is now about 70 years of ace, and has long
seen known as the AUTHOR and DISCOVERER .of the
QeVuIXE ORIGINAL " TOJWSRXD SARSAPARIL
LA. Being poor, he was compelled to limit its manufacture, by
which means it has been kept out of market, 'and the sales cir
cumscribed tolhose only who hadproved its worth,, andjenown
ts value. It had reached the ears of many, nevertheless, as
those persons whoTirfd-been" healed 'of sore diseases, and saved
from death, proclaimed Its excellence and wonderful
HEALING POWER.
Knowing, many years ago, that he had, by his skill, science
and experience, devised an article which woutd bo of meal cu
.able advantage to mankind when the means would be fur
nished tn bring it into universal notice, when its inestimable
virtues would be known and appreciated. This time has come,
the means are supplied : this
GRAXD AJCD UXEQ,UALLED PREPARATION
s manufactured on the largest scale, and is called for through
out the length and breadth of the land. especiallyas it is found
Incapable of degeneration or deterioration.
Unlike young S. P. Townsend's, it improves with age, and
never changes, but for the better; because it Is prepared en scien
tific principles by a seicntijic man. The highest knowledce of
Chemistry, and the latest discoveries of the art, have all been
crouch, .nto requisition in the manufacture of the Old in s
Sarsananlla. TheSarsnpariila root, it is well known to mcdlea.
men. contains many medicinal properties, and some properties
tvhicn are men or useless, au uiucn, nmi.u r.
oarin" it for rise, produce fermentation and acid, whtch is in-
furious to the system. Some, of the properties of Sarsaparilla
we so volatile, that they entirely evaporate and are lost In the
preparation, if they are not preserved by a scientific process
known only to those experienced in Its manufacture: Moreover,
these volatile principles, which fly off In vapor, or as an exhala
tion, under heat, are the very essential medical properties of the
root, which give to it r". its value.
Any person can boifnrsiew the root till they geta dark colored
liquid, which is more from the coloring matter in the root than
from any thing else; they can then strain this Insipid or vapid
liquid, sweeten with sour molasses, and then call it "SAR
SAPAB1LLA EXTRACT or SYRUP." But such is not tht
article known as the
GENUINE OLD DJR. JACOB TOWNSEND'S
SARSAPARILLA.
This is so prepared, that all ihe inert proicrties of the Sar
saparilla root are first removed, every thins capable of becoming
acid or of fermentation, is extracted and rejected; then every
particle of medical virtue is secured in a pure and concentrated
form ; and thus it is rendered incapabieof losing any of its valu
able and healing properties. Prepared In this way, it is made the
Bost powerful agent in the
Cure of innnmerable diseases.
Hence the reason why we hear commendations on every side
In its favor by men, women, and children. We find it doing
wonders in the cure of
CONSUMPTION', DTSPEPSIA, and LIVER ,COM
P7wJJVT, and in RHEUMATISM, SCROFULA. PILES,
COSTIVEMESS, all CUTANEOUS ERUPTIONS, PIM
PLES, BLOCTHKS. and all affections arising from
IMPURITY OF THE BLOOD.
It possesses a marvellous efficacy in all complaints arising from
Indigestion, from Acidity of the Stomaek, from unequal circula
tion, determination of blood: to the head, palpitation of the heart,
cold feet and hands, cold chills and hot flashes over the body. It
has not its equal In Colds and Coughs ; and promotes easy ex-
ftectoration and gentle perspiration, relaxing stricture of the
ungs, throat, and every other part.
But in nothing is its excellence more manifestly seen and"ac
knowledged than in all kinds and stages of
FEMALE COMPLAINTS.
It wbrks wonders in cases of Fiuor Albvs or tFhitcs. Falling of
the JVomb, Obstructed, Suppressed, or Painful Menses, Irregular
ity of the menstrual periods, and the like ; and is as effectual
in curing all the forms of Kidney Diseases.
By removing obstructions, ;and regulating the general sys
tem, it gives tone and strength to the whole body, and thus
cures all forms of
IVerTous diseases and debility,
and thus prevents or relieves a great variety of other maladies,
as Spinal irritation, Neuralgia, St. Vitus' Dance, Swooning,
Epileptic Fits. Convulsions, Izc.
It cleanses the blood, excites the liver to healthy action, tones
tho stomach, and gives good digestion, relieves the bowels of
torpor and constipation,taIlays inflammation, purifies the skin,
equalises the circulation of the blood, producing gentle warmth
equally all over the body, and the insensible perspiration; re
taxes aH strictures and tightness, removes all obstructions, and
inviBorates the entire nervous system. Is not this then'
The medicine you pre-eminently need 1
But can any of these things be said of S. P. Townsend's infe
rior article 1 This younc man's liquid is not to be
COMPARED WITH THE OLD DR'S,
because of one GRAND FACT, that the one is INCAPABLE
of DETERIORATION, and
NEVER SPOILS,
while the other DOES ;' souring; fermenting, and blowing tht
botUcs containing it into fragments; the sour, acid liquid explo
ding,- and damaging other goods ! Must not this horrible com
pound he poisonous to the system V What ! put acid into a
system already diseased with acid 1 What causes Dyspepsia but
acid 1 Do we not all know that when food sours in our stom
achs, what mischiefs it produces ? flatuence, heartburn, palpi
tatlon of the heart, liver complaints diarrhma, dysentery, colic,
and corruption of the blood 7 What is Scrofula but an acid
humor in the body 7 What produces all the humors which
bring on Eruptions of the Skin,. Scald Head. Salt Rheum, Ery
sipelas, White Swellings, Fever Sores, and all ulcerations in
ternaland external 7 lr is nothing under heaven, but an acid
substance, which sours, and thus spoils all the fluids of the
body, more or less. What causes Rheumatism but a sour or
acid fluid, which insinuates Itself between the joints and else
where, irritating and inflaming the delicate tissues npon which
It acts 7 So of nervous diseases, of impurity of tho blood, of
deranged circulations, and nearly all the ailments which afflict
human nature.
Now is It not norrible to make and sell, and infinitely tcom
to use this

OF S. P. TOWNSEND,
and yet be would fain have it understood that Old Dr. Jacob
Townsend's Gmvinc Original Sarsaparilla, is an IMITATION
of his inferior preparation!:
neaven forbid thnt we should deal in an article Vtfhich would

We wish it Understood", because it is the absolute truth, that
S. P. Townsend's articio and Old Dr. Jacob Townsend's Sar

they are unlike- in' every particular, having not one single thing

disease has already gained-Upon her, the sound
of her sepulchral cough pierces your soul.
!Young marf, when just about to enter life,
disease sends a hear-crushing blight over the
:fairkprospect8 of the future,, your hectic cough
and feeble limbs tell of your loss of hope, but
you need not despair. There is a balm which
will heal the wounded lungs, it is
.SHERMAN'S AL.L -HEALING BALSAM.
Mrs. Attree, the wife of Wm. H. Attree, Esq.,
was given tip by Dr. Sewall of Washington,
Drs. Roe and McClellan of Philadelphia, Dr.
Roe and Dr. Mott of New York. Her friends
all thought she must die. She had every ap
pearance of being in consumption, and was so
pronounced by her physicians Sherman's Bal
sam was given, and it cured her.
Mrs. Garrabrantz, pf Bull's Ferry, was also
cured of consumption by this Balsam when all
other remedies failed to give relief she was
reduced to a skelton. Dr. A. C. Castle, Den
tist , 281 Broadway, has witnessed its effects!
in several cases where no other medicine .af
forded relief but the Balsam "operated like a
charm. Dr. G. also witnessed its wonderful
effects in curing Asthma, which it never fails
of doing. Spitting Blood, .alarming as it may
be, is effectually cured by this Balsam'. It
heals the ruptured or wounded blood vessels,
and makes the lungs sound! again.
Rev. Henry Jones, 108 Eighth avenue, was
cured of cough and catarrhal affection of 50
years standing. The first dose gave him more
relief than ali the other medicine he had ever
taken. Dr. L. J. Beals, 19 Delancy-street,
gave it to a sister-inlaw who was laboring un
der Consumption, and to another sorely afflic
ted with the Asthma. In both cases its effects
were immediate, soon restoring them to com
fortable health.
Mrs. Lchretia Wells, 95 Ghristie-st. suffered
from Asthma 42 years. Sherman's Balsam
relieved her at once, and she is comparatively
well, being enabled to subdue every attack by
a timely use of this medicine. This indeed is
the great remedy for Goughs, Golds, Spitting
Blood, Liver Complaints, and all the affections
of the throat, and even Asthma and Consump
tion.

If it does not give immediate.relief, in every case,
it can do no injury, being applied outwardly. As

which were prescribed for me by physicians and
other persons, without receiving any relief, and
at last made trial of this Salve, with a result fa
