New York, April 28, 1847.
Dr Townsend T verily believe that your Sar
saparilla has been the means, through Providence,
of saving my life. I have for several years had a
bad Cough. It became worse and worse. At
last I raised large u uanlites of blood, had night
Sweats, and was greatly debiliated and reduced,
and did not expect to live. 1 have only used your
Sarsaparilla a short time, and there has a wonder
ful change been wrought in me. I am now able
to walk all over the city.. I raise no blood, and
my cough has left me. You can well imagine
that I am thankful for these results.

could find no recommendations in our circulars for
cases like hers, we thought, as she was in very

Female Medicine
Dr. Townsend's Sarsaparilla is a sovereign and
speedy cure for Incipient Consumption, Barren
ness, Prolapsus Uteri, or Falling of the Womb,
Costiveness, Piles, Leucorrhoea, or Whites, ob
structed or difficult Menstruation. Ihcontinuence
of Urir.e, or involuntary discharge thereof, and for
the general prostration of the system no matter
whether the result of inherent cause or causes,
produced by irregularity, illness or accident.--Nothing
can be more surprising than its invigora
ting effects on the human frame. Persons all
weakness and lassitude, from taking it, at once be
come robust and full of energy under its influence
It immediately counteracts the nervelessness of
the female frame, which is the great cause of
Banenness. It will not be expected of us, in ca
ses of so delicate a nature, to exhibit certificates
of cures performed but we can assure the afflicted
that hundreds of cases have been reported to us.
Thousands of cases where families have been with
out children, after using a few bottles of this in
valuable medicine, have been blessed with fine
healthy offspring.
To Mothers and Married Ladies.
This Extract of Sarsaparilla has been express
ly prepared in reference to female complaints.
No female who has reason to suppose she ia ap
proaching that critical period, u The turn of life,"
should neglect to take it, as it is a certain preven
tive for any of the numerous and horrible diseases
to which females are subject at this time of life.
This period may be delayed for several years by us
ing thia medicine. Nor is it less valuable for those
who are approaching womanhood, as it is calcula
ted, to assist nature, by quickening tho blood and
invigorating the system. Indeed, this medieinn ic
invaluable for all the delicate diseaa to which'
women are subject. It braces the whole syS!
renews permanently the natural energies. L
moving the impurities of the body, not so farsij6
ulating as to produce subsequent relaxation, uCi!
is the case ol most medicines taken fnrVemal

this medicine, many severe and painful surtic ,
operations may be prevented. 1
Great Blessing to Mothers and Children. "t
the safest and most effectual medicine for punf!
ing the system, and relieveing ihe sufferings ane"
dant upon child-birth ever discovered. It strerinth
ens both the mother and child, prevents pain ari
disease, increases and enriches the food, those wh
have used it think it is indispensible. it js higM

Beauty and Health. Cosmetics, Chalk, and
variety of prparalions generally iu use, whenap.
plied to the face, very soon spoil it of its beauty
They close the pores of the skin, and check the
circulation, which, when nature is not thwarted
by disease or powder, or the skin inflame byt
alkalies used in soaps, beautifies its own produe
tion in the "human face Divine," as well as inihe
garden of rich and delicately tinted and variegated
flowers. A free, active and healthy circulation of
the fluids ot the coursing of the pure, rich blood t0
the extremities, is that which paints the rounte.
nance in the most exquisite beauty. It is that whtrh
imparts the indescribable shides and flashes of
loveliness that all admire, but none can deseube
This beauty is the offspring of nature not of p0
der or soap. If there is not a free and healthy
circulation, there is no beauty. If the lady isfi!r
as driven snow, if she paint, and use cosmetic?
and the blood is thick, cold and impure, she isr.jt
beautiful. If she be brown or yellow, and tlieri
is pure and active blood, it gives-a rich bloomy
the cheeks and a brilliancy to the eyes ihat iS
fascinating. This is why the southern, and espe
cially the Spanish ladies, are so much admired.
Ladies in the north who take but little exercise or
are confined in close rooms, or have spoiled iheir
complexion by the application of deleterious mix.
tures, if they wish to regain elasticity of step,
buoyant spirits, sparnkling eyes and beauifti
complexions, they should use Dr. Townsend'j
Sarsaparilla. Thousands who have tried it, are
more than satisfied, are delighted. Ladies ofeverr
station, crowd our office daily.
Notice lo the Ladies. -I hose that imitate Dr.
Townsend's Sarsaparilla, have invariavly called
their stuff a great Remedy for Females, &c.,&c
and have copied our bills and circulars which re-
lates to the complaints of women, word for word
other men who put up medicine,- have, since the
great success of Dr. Townsend's Sarsaparilla in
complaints incident to females recommended
theirs, although priviousl? they did not. A num
ber of these Mixtures, Pills, &c, are injurious to
females, as they aggravate diseases, and under
mine the constitution.
Scrofula Cured. This certificate conclusively
proves that this Sarsaparilfa has perfect rontn.1
over the most obstinate diseases- of the Blood.
Three persons cured in one house is unprecedented
Three Children. Dr. Townsend Dear Sir: I
have the pleasure to inform you that three of my
