ihe provinces, as Bristol, Manchester! Liver

and Weymouth, who likewise manufacture
great quantities, but the exacl quanuiy we have
not been able" to ascertain ; but it may be safe
ly sajd that there are now employed in Eng
land, in this branch 500 men, 1,200 boys, 11,
000 women and girls, using 90,000 square feet
of timber per week, and making weekly 100,

first thing which putkes ihe inquiring mind is,
where and how is this immense quantity con

creasing, and the manufacturers cannot make
them fast enough. One firm alone in Man

can make the next five months, beside their
regular orders.

The Pennsylvania nquirer of the 15th says:
The Whigs of Philadelphia yesterday achieved
a glorious victory. The result is most gratify

leads Mr. Keyser 438 votes, while he leads
Col. Page 1034. ' The whole vote polled in the
city was 13,728, or nearly a thousand less tha.n

ome of qor candidates on ihe City and Coun

realized the warmesi expectation of our friends.

THE QUESTION SETTLED.
MANY PERSONS WONDER AND ASK,
why Dr. SmilKs Vegetable Pills are now pre
ferred to other medicines which have been so
much longer before the public. The reasons
are plainly, thai they give more general satis
faction, and are incomparahhj more pleasant, be-:
i.ng coated with sugar ; and as ilpey ncuer gripe,
or nauseate, it is no wonder that those who Use
them do lecoiiime.nd ihcm beyond ' any other
Pills. They cleanse and purify ihe blood, aid
