Iteeiiiito.of ih. Democracy oi Monroe Pursuant to prtni us notice, ihe Democrais of the county of Monroe met at the court house, in the borough of Strousburg, on Thurs day ovening, 11th May, Is 13. On motion, MORRIS D. ROBESON was called to the Chair, and Adam Overfield, Elihu Postens and Simeon Sehoonover, Esqrs. ap pointed Vice Preidunt.s, and Stroud Rtras and James Place, Secretaries. On motion, a committee of nine, consisting of the following named gentlemen, James K. Stroud, Esq., Francis J. Smith, Esq.j Philip Hoffman, Esq , J. Edward ilnodmachcr, Peter S. Ahemose, Esq , Daniel Price, M. Place, John D. Witt ajid Jasper Vlioi, were appointed -to draft resolutions expressive of the sense of "this meeting, who retired and reported the following, which were adopted en mase. Resolved, That the Democracy of the coun ty of Monroe, has been long known and tried, and has never yet been wanting in a large majority in favor of the people's candidates, and that we will not now be found arrayed against a State Administration of our own choice, and a Governor whose principles and course of conduct we highly approve. Resolved, That any political meeting in this county, holding sentiments differing from these, cannot be of the main body of the Democratic party, but must be composed of shreds of par ties, aided by Dictators from other counties, to whose double-dealing the Democracy of Mon roe are strangers, and from whoso principles and opinions we most determinedly turn an ay. Resolved, That we do not approve of the National Administration under John Tyler, and hope to see. a faithful, true-heaiied Democrat of the old-fashioned school and principles, selected as a candidate for he Presidency, to whom wo will give our undivided Mipport. Resolved, That we entirely approve of the Stale Administration under our excellent Chief Magistrate, David R. Porter, the man of our choice, and whose faithful services and detcr 4ii ined opposition to dictation from the unprin cipled, and whose prudence and economy in the administration of the affairs of State, de mands and receives our unqualified commenda tion. Resolved, That the only two vetoes .by the Governor during the last session of the Legis lature, the first of the Congressional District bill, and the oilier -of the act authorising the Legislature to elect the Canal Commissioners, were measures of wisdom and justice. The iirst bill being unequal and unjust in its provis ions, and the latter- placing power in the Leg islature not allowed them by the constitution, iitul which had once been given them and im mediately on trial withdrawn, and more partic ularly because the majority of tho late Legis lature was not a body of men in whom the Democracy could place confidence, or to whose hands they could commit unusual powers and privileges. Resolved, That we highly approve of the course pursued by our Representatives, Messrs. Joseph Kerr and Asa Packer, and of our Sen ator Liuher Kidder, and believe that they have faithfully represented the voice of their con stituents and have well maintained the best in terests of the commonwealth though they were sometimes in the minority, on account of having been deserted by those who should have stood by them, some of whom betrayed iheir constituents bv so deserting them. Resolved, That the Democracy of Monroe is rapable of taking care of themsehes, and that we entirely decline and refuse the dictation of renegade Democrais, office-hunters, and all others from adjoining counties. That the ad dress of Speaker Wright recently madet this place, contained sentiments which we neither approve nor believe, and recommend to that gentleman to confine his exertions hereafter to 1ih own constituents, and endeavor to settle with them for deserting his party and princi ides. Resolved, That the proceedings of this meeting be signed by the officers and publish cd. Signed by the Officers.)
