OR THE HOME DOOK OF LITERATURE, FASHION, AND
UU.UBST1U ECONOMY.
The .First Number will bo issued in JANUARY
1613, and will contain
FIVE SPLENDID PLATES.
Edited bv Miss E. LESLIE, author of Mrs.
Washington Potts," &c. and T. S. ARTHUR, au
thor of "Sis Nights with the Washingtonians,"&c.
Embellished with the most exquisite Mezzotint
and Steel Plates, and splendid coloured Plates of
xtiQ fashions.
Tho great demand which has existed for the
past vear. for Godev's LadvVs Hook. Graham's
Magazine, and other kindred publications, has in
duced tho subscriber to present to the public a
Aiontniy Magazine, similar in us general features
lo the popular works refeired to, but with some
claims to attention which they do not possess. For
mis purpose ne nas secured tne aid oi jC.
LESLIE, universally known as the first female
writer of the age, and particularly distinguished by
her graphic sketches of manners, and her success
in illustrating and correcting fashionable follies.
As tho writer of various books, and a contribu
tor to Godev's Lady's Book, Graham's Magazine,
nnd other periodilals of high reputation, Miss Les
lie has done much to enlighten and entertain the
public, and in the Magazine now presented, which
bears her name, she will make her eminent talents
still more available for the general good. Besides
a series of Nouvellettes, in her own inimitable
style, in which, under cover of amusement, some
beneficial design will be promoted, she will fur
nish from her objervaticn, reading and experience,
a succession of Essays on Household Economy,
embracing general suggestions for tho regulation
of domestic establishments, hints and reflections
useful to housekeepers, practical advice, numer
ous receipts never before published, and all other
things that may be made subservient to the pur
pose. This department of the Maga7ine, though
no undue space will be allotted to it, is not toe
found in any other periodical, and tho Publisher
is satisfied thnt it will not be Jess interesting und
valuable than it is nevel.
As it is the purposa of thoPublisher to make the
Magazine tributary to useful designs, he has made
nn arrangement with the lustiv celebrated T. S,
ARTHUR, Esq. by which that gentleman will ba
uirecuy engaged in a joint supenntendance, and
will bestow his best endeavors. Mr. Arthur will
furnish for each number one or more of his life
like narratives, and such other matter as may be
adapted to the amusement and improvement of all
ages and classes, especially young ladies, to whose
interests the utmost caro will be directed.
Believing that a proper taste in dress is essen
tial to tho true development of female gratefulness,
a portion of the work will be devoted to an expo
sition and illustration of tho prevailing Fashions.
This will bs strictly and exclusively under the
care of Miss Leslie, whose severe taste and ample
opportunies of observation will confer upon what
ever receives the stamp of her approbation, a high
authority. To enable her to select the newest,
latest, and most recherche fashions, the Publisher
has made arrangements to receive, by the Steam
ers, the latest issues of Paris and London; and to
give the higest possible efTect to the modes select
ed, he has made an engagement with a'celabrated
Artist to compose and modify the groups, bo as to
render them highly effective. He therefore does
not hesitate to announce that his Fashion Plates
will be not onlv more correct, but will be execu
ted in -a style of greater brilliancy and elegance
than any which can be found in any other publi
cation. M iss Leslie's .(Magazine will, as will be per
ceived from what has been stated, be emphatically
a Home Buok, and it will contain matter especial
ly calculated for ornament to the centre table, in
teresting reading and conversation in the Draw
ing Room, and lor the Family Fireside, valuable
suggestions in the housekeeper's department, and
iinen-inc illustrations in the stvle of dress.
Tho embellishments will be in tho first style of
the pirtoral an. Each number will contain, at
least, two Plates; and m the course of the volume
there will be "presented several Superb Mezzotints,
of the highest possible elegance and finish.
The contents of Mhs Leslie's .Magazine will Ub
uch to give it, in this respect, a decided superi
t my. No more reverence for the names will in-
duce the Editors to admit anv artielo of nuestifin.
able merit, but everything admitted will be judged
of by its intrinsic worth, and nothing can possibly
find a place which will not be calculated to pro
mote the entertainment and edification of its rea
ders. It v iJ scarcely be credited that a Magazine,
Buch as has been described, can be afforded at the
low rate of $1 50 per annnum, when but a single
ropy if subscribed for, but at the risk of consider
able loss, the publisher has determined to furnish
"it for that sum. being just one half the price of the
other principal Magazines. Indeed, as will be
seen by the subjoined list of offers and premiums,
tho publisher has resolved upon obtaining a wide
circulation for his publication, as it will require
un immense edition to repay the laige outlays ne
oesssrv to be made.

Proved in more than 400,000 cases to be infal-
ible; tho only certain worm-destroying medi
cine ever discovered. Manv diseases anso
rom worms and occasion long and intense suff
ering nnd even death, without their ever being
suspected; grown persons are very often afflict
ed with ihem and are doctored for various com
plaints, tvithoul any benefit; when one dose of
these Lozenges would speedily cure them.
Mr. J. Murphy, 90 North si. Philadelphia,
was applied to by a poor woman whose daugh
ter, 7 years old, had been sick for nearly 3
years; her stomach was as large as a grown
person s, her arms and legs to swollen that she
could not walk or help herself, although she
could eat as much as two laboring men. Two
celebrated doctors had exhausted their skill
without any benofit; the father had spent all he
could raise and was discouraged, he abandon
ed all idea of doing anything more for her, and
looked to death alone, lo take her out of her
misery. Mr. Murphy believing it a case of
worms, gave her a box of Sherman's Lozenges,
and in two days she returned with joy beaming
in her eyes, and said the Lozenges had saved
her child's life. The first dose brought away
nearly a pint of worms in one. living mass, she
afterwards counted over 800 that were discharg
ed, besides the mass which she could not i
count. The child was literally eaten up with
th em another living witness of the almost mir
aculous efficacy of Sherman's Lozenges.

induced bv tho persuasion of a friend, to try a Box
of Doctor Peters' Pills.
They are in use as a Family Medicine, and all
who have used them give them the preference to
all other kinds, on account of their being a safe,
pleasant, and easy aperient being mild in their
action at the same time; though, in their operation,
producing neither sickness, griping, nor debility.
Doct. Jos. Priestley Peters,

WAYNE COUNTY MUTUAL
INSURANCE COIPANY.
ALL Persons insuring in this company are
members equally interested in its welfare
and in the election of its officers.
In order to become a member of this company
and thereby be insured, the applicant gives a pre
mium note, the amount of which is in proportion
to the amount to be insured, and its degree of
hazard, thus: If S1000 is to be insured, at 5 per
cent., he gives his note for $50. If at 10 per cent,
he give3 his note for $100, and in that proportion
for a greater or less um, according to the rate of
hazard, on which note he advances 0 per cent, and
an additional sum of $1 50 for survev and policy.
He then becomes a member on the approval of
his application and is insured for five years. I he
aggregate of the premium notes constitutes the
cash fund, chargable first, with the expenses, and
second, with the losses of the Company; and
should it prove insufficient to pay both losses and
expenses the money to meet the losses, (should
any occur) is borrowed agreeably to the act of in
corporation, and paid. An assessment is then
made to repay such loan upon the premium notes,
in proportion "to their respective amounts, and in no
case to be made but once a year, notwithstanding
several losses may nappen.
At the expiration of five years the note, if any
assessments have been made and paid, is given
up, and the insured may renew his application.
Policies may at any time be assigned or sur
rendered and cancelled, and the premium notes
given up, according to the by-laws of the Com
pany. No more than three fourths of the .cash
value of any property will be insured, and all
great hazards: such as Cotton Factories, Powder
Mills, Distilleries, Machine Shops, Manufactories
for Printer's Ink, and all establishments of the
same class of hazards, arc not insured upon any
conditions whatever, and that no one risk is taken
over $5000, it is considered much more safe and
less expensive than in Stock companies, where
they insure large amounts and hazardous property.

Wrigkls Indian Vegcta!le Pills
Of the North American College of Health.
This extraordinary medicine is founded upon
the principle that the human frame is subject to
ONLY ONE DISEASE, viz: Corrupt Humors,
or in other words Impurity of the Blood, and noth
ing save vegetable cleansing, is wanted in order
to drive disease of every description from the bo
dy. If the channels of our mighty rivers should be
come choked up, would not the accumulated wa
ters find new outlets, or the country be inundated?
Just so with the human body; if the natural drains
become closed, the accumulated impurities will
most assuredly find vent in some form of disease,
or death will be a certain consequence.
WRIGHTS INDIAN VEGETA BLE PILLS
are eminently calculated for carrying out this
GRAND PURIFYING PRINCIPLE Uectjse
they are a purgative medicine so .v-aved
and withal so natural to the huuKui cc.tust.taticr.,
that they cannot posmiy injuro l)jtJ 115031 viei irate;
at the same time, if used in such a Mutuser as to
produce free evacuations by - the bowdb arid re
peated a few times, it will be absolutely impossi
ble for pain or distress of any kind to continuc.in
the body. A single twenty-five cent box of the
above named Indian Vegetable Pills will, in all
cases, give relief, sometimes even beyond the
power of words to describe, and if persevered in
for a short time, there is not a malady in the
whole course of human ills that can possibly with
stand their astonishing and wonderful influence.
WRIGHT'S INDIAN VEGETABLE PILLS
are a certain cure for
COSTIVENESS,
Because they completely cleanse the stomach and
bowels from those billious and corrupt humours
which paralyse and weaken the digestive organs,
and are the cause of headache, nausea, and sick
ness, palpitation of the heart, rheumatic pains in
various parts of the body, and many other unplea
sant symptoms.
In all disordered motions of the Blood, called
Intermittent, Remittent, Nervous; Inflammatory,
and Putrid
FEVERS,
Wright's Indian Vegetable Pills will be found a
certain remedy; because they cleanse the stom.
ach and bowels from all bilious humours and pu
rify the blood; consequently, as they remove eve
ry kind of disease, they are absolutely certain to
cure every kind of fever.
So, also, when morbid humours are deposited
upon the membrane and muscle, causing those
ains, inflammations and swellings, called
RHEUMATISM, GOUT, &c,
Wright's Indian Vegetable Pills may be relied on
as always certain to give relief, and if persevered
with, will most assuredly, and without fail, make
a perfect cure of the above painful maladies.
From three to six of said Indian Vegetable Pills
taken every night on going to bed, will, in a short
time, completely rid the body from all morbid and
corrupt humours; and rheumatism, gout, and pain
of every description, will despair, as if by magic.
For the same reason, when, from sudden
changes of the atmosphere, or any other cause,
the perspiration is checked, and those humours
which should pass off by the skin, are thrown in
wardly, causing headache, nausea, and sickness,
pain in the bones, watery and inflamed eyes, sore j
i i i .r 1 I
uiroai, Hoarseness, cougns, consumption, rnuu-
matic pains in various parts of the body, and ma
ny other symptoms of
CATCHING COLD,
Wright's Indian Vegetable Pills will invariably
give immediate relief. Three or four pills taken
at night on going to bed, and repeated a few times
will remove all the above unpleasant symptoms, j
and restore the body to even soundci hea'th thun ;
before. The same may be said of difficulty of j
breathing, or
ASTHMA.
Wright's Indian Vegetable Pills will loosen
and carry off by the-stomach and bowels those
rough and phlegtny humours which stop the air
cells of the lungs, and are the cause of the above
dreadful complaint.
It should also be remembered that WRIGHTS
INDIAN VEGETABLE PILLS are certain to
remove pain in the side, oppression, nausea and
sickness, loss of appetite, costiveness, a yellow
tinge of the skin and eyes, and every other symp
tom of
LIVER COMPLAINT.
B eoause they purge from the body those corrupt
and stagnant humours, which when deposited on
the liver, are the cause of the above dangerous
complaint They are also to prevent
APOPLEXY AND SUDDEN DEATH.
Becauso they carry off those humors which ob
structing the circulation, arc the csuse of a rush;
or determination of blood to the head; giddiness,
especially on turning suddenly round, blindness,
drowsiness, loss of memory, inflamntion of the
brain, insanity, and all disorders of the mind.
Those who labour within doors should remcnv
ber that they frequently breathe an atmosphere
which is wholly unfit for the prqper expansion of
the lungs, and nt the same time owing to want of
exercise, the bowels ore not sufficiently evacua
tod, the blood becomes impure, and headache, in
digestion, palpitation of the heart, and many other
disagreeable symptoms are sure to follow
WRIGHT'S INDIAN VEGETABLE PILLS
Being a-Cleanser of tho stomach and bow
a DIRECT PURIFIER of the Blood, are Cer.,7
not only to remove pain or distress of every fcj,
from the body, but if used occasionally, 30 as ,
keep tho body free from those humours which at
the CAUSE OF EVERY MALADY LCu
DENT T6 MAN, they will most assuredly prJ
mote such a just and equal circulation of tiia
blood, that thoso who lead a sedentary life, Wj,
be able to enjoy sound health, and DISEASE Op
ANY KIND WILL BE ABSOLUTELY IM.
POSSIBLE.
