Execution of Major Audrc.
Dr. Hall, of East Hartford, a surgeon in the
army of the Revolution. was an eye-witness to
the execution of Major Andre, standing within
four or live rods of the scene. Noticing some
inaccuracies in the article wejuiblished from
ilic Knickerbocker, a few days ago, he has cal
led and related to us the following particulars.
He states that Major Andre walked to the place
of execution behind the cart, accompanied by
two officers, one on each side, stopped under
the gallows. Arrived there, he immediately
stepped up into the cart, when the officer of the
day, Col. Scammell, said to him. "if yoti have
any thin"- to say, you now have an opportuni
ty." He replied, "I have nothing to say, but
to have you bear witness that I die like a brave
man." Col. S. then told the hangman to do his
duty. He went to work so awkwardly in at
tempting to put the noose over Andre's neck,
thai Andre took it from him and made an effort
io do it himself. But his hat being in the way
he let go the rope, took of his hat and stock,
and laid them on the coffin, and unbuttoned his
hirt collar and turned it down. He then put
ihe noose over his head, and adjusted it to his
neck; took out of his pocket a while handker
chief, with which he bandaged his eyes; and a
blue ribbon, which he handed to the execution
er, requesting him to tie his hands behind him.
'This being done, Col. Scammell directed the
oart to be driven away. Andre was a small man
and seemed hardly to stretch the rope, und his
legs dangled so much that the hangman was or
dered to take hold of them and keep them
straight. The body was cut down after hang
ing fifteen or twenty minutes, and buried near
the gallows. From the location of the grave,
Andre must have passed it in going to the place
of execution.
The Doctor thinks the account lelative to the
attempts made by Washington to secure Arnold
;md liberate Andre must be incorrect. The
Court which sentenced Andre to death, having
been held on the 29lh of September, only three
days before his execution, the time allowed was
not by any means sufficient to permit such plans
to be successfully carried out, especially the one
in which Champe was said to have been con
cerned. Hartford Courant.

This was readily acceded to, and
it was carried on agreeably and satis

THE CONSTITUTION.
What is that we call the Constitution? The
constitution is evidently that which constitutes
and that which constitutes is the blood. We, there
fore, know that the blood is the constitution, and
that a good or bad constitution is- neither more nor
less than a good or bad state of the blood. J here is
no person who, having lost health, does not wish to
have it restored. Use then the proper means. Ex
pel with Purgative Medicine all currupt humors
from the body, and the blessing, Health, will be
tne certain result: lor all pains or unpleasant feel
irigs proceed from the presence of corrupt or vi-
imiea numors, wmcn are tne real cause oi every
; disease, and therefore the only disease to which th'e
human frame is subject, because they clog up the
veins and arteries, and prevent the free circulation
oi the blood.
BrandrcllCs Vegetable Universal Pills cure this
disease : because they remove the corrupt or vi
tiated humors by the -stomach and bowels, leaving
the good humors to give life and health to the bo
dy. It is morally impossible that they can fail to
cure, provided Nature is not entirely exhausted'..

Celebrated Vegetable Antibilous Pills,
are daily effecting some of the most astonishing
and wonderful cures that have ever been known,

the Palace and Poor-house alike echo with their vir
tues in all climates and under all tctngcralurcs
they still retain their wonderful virtues.
PETERS' VEGETABLE PILLS.
Breathes there the man who may not be occa
sasionally benefited by the use of Peters' Pills ?
No, assuredly not ; for the human frame, like any
olher.structure, -will fall into confusion and ruin,
if neglected ; but, by the aid of medicine judi
ciously applied, it is enabled to preserve a heal
thy and even tone ; and it is the lirt of -well-tested
public opinion, that Dr. Peters' pills are the me
dicine of medicines 'in the prevention or cure of
the general diseases which the human tenement
is incidental to.
Do men in robust'healih require medicine-7 Cer
tainly, for the very excess of health begets cer
tain diseases unless duly regulated. If the blood
is suffered to run riot without correcting laxatives,
costiveness, megrin, biles, scurvy, spleen pimples,
furred tongue, or offensive breath, are the inevita
ble consequences ; fox exiibeiance of health, like
over-rich soil, becomes rank, and prone to the pro
duction of weeds, if care is not taken to have it
judiciously moderated.
But healthy men have an antipathy to the very
name ot medicine'! And no wonder, lor ninetecn-
twentieths of all the medicines in the world com
mence operations by making the people very -sick
whom it was intended they should make verv well
and thus in most cases the cure is considered rathe
worse than the disease. But Dr. Peters' Pills is
the celebrated and particular exception to this al
most universal rule. ' in mom mere is no gripe
no nausea, no sickness of any kind; nay, they are
absolutely very pleasant to the taste, and rest as
quietly on the stomach as so many confits of green
peas, even when tlieir operations are as sudeen and
effective, as if they were as "disagreeable and as
sickening as an old lahindned bolus. 1 bus the
man who uses Peters' Pills, and where is the
man that does not tise them 1 expels headaches
tevers, oiue devils, uiotchcs, pimples, Arc. tVc. and
makes his blood course as limpid and as gently
through his veins as a mountain rivulet, without
having put himself "to any more inconvenience in
taking the medicine than, he would have done in
swallowing so many black currants.
Should ladies take Dr. Peters' Pills? Doubt
lessly they should, for they not only assure thern
ot health, complacency ol spirits, and every bod
ily comfort, but thiough their miraculous agency
in the purification ol the blood, speedily remove
every thing pertaining to harshness, pimples, or
cuuai scurvy, irom uic nesn, animates tne eye
and gives an elasticity and a vigor to the hinbs
ana tne general cairiage : ana hence, when you
see a lady with "a cheek of velvet softness, a pure
lily and carnation complexion, and an easv & grace
ful bearing, the general inference to be drawn is
that she is her own physician, and very particular
in the choice ol her medicine ; and the especial
one, that she is a patron ot . reters rills.
Leaving health out of the question, should poets
novelists, editors, machinists, and men of genius
and science in general, patronise Peters' Pills ?
Unquestionably, lor- the vigor which they impart
to the frame, exercises a most wholesome influ
ence upon the intellect : and the writer of this
feels justified in saying, that any person about to
carry out an idea, whether of composition or in
vention, will have a more lucid understanding o
his subject, and think better and more to the point
on it, alter he has viviheu his system by a dce o
from one to four of Peters' pills Persons in bu
siness, merchants, store keepers, clerks, specula
tors, &c. will derive great advantage from them
on the same principle- lor if the mind is nof buov-
ant, no man can attend to the usual pursuits of
mo with due perspicrity, judgment, and pleasure
and there is nothing in the world, at least that has
been ever discovered, so efficient in brightening
the faculties, and freeing them from participating
in the languor, decay, and imperfectibilfy of their
mortal anode as Dr. 1'eters pills.
To what may be attributed these singular and
wonderful efi'ects I Why. to their mysterious and
inevitable action upon the chyle, and that partial-
iar region oi the system wfence the living fluid is
generated ; for thus they do not only purify the
blood, but create pure blood, the issue of 'which is
healthy veins, arler.ies, and other functions, unob
scured vision, firm and pulpy flesh, smooth and
clear skin, and the consequent buoyancy of heart,
feeling, and action. In short, whether we take
them as a matter of health, business, feeling, or
personal appearance, there is none of us should
leave our houses without a regular supply of Pe
ters nils.
More than six millions of boxes of these cele
brated pills have been sold in the United States,
Canada's, Texas, Mexico, and- the West Indies,
since January 1835-' The certificates that have
been presented to the proprietor, exceed 20,000,
upwards of 500 of which are from regular prac
tising physicians who are the most competent
juugus oi ineir merits.

CURING PRACTICE.
The principle of-purifying the body by purg
ing with vegetable physic is becoming more and
more understood as the only sensible method by
which sound health can be established. Hun
dreds of individuals have become convinced of
this doctrine, and are daily acknowledging the
practice to be the best ever discovered. Now
is the unhealthy season when our bodies are
liable to be affected with disease; and now is
the time the stuto of the stomach and bowels
should he attended to, because on the healthy
slate of those organs, depends the healthy state
of the general system; and every one will see at
once; if the general health be had while lhat re
mains, local disease cannot be cured,
All the medicine that is requisite to restore
the body to a state of health is Brandreth's Veg
etable Universal Pills, which have performed
cures upon thousands of helpless and hopeless
persons, alter the usual scientific skill ol phy
sicians have consoled them with the assurance
that they could do no more. The properties of
Lhese Pills as anti-bilious and aperient medicine
are unrivalled; all who use thorn recommend
them, their virtues surpass all eulogy, and must
be used to bo appreciated. The weak and del
icate will he strengthened by their use, not by
bracing but by removing the cause of weakness,
the gross and corrupt humors of the body.
They require no change in diet or care of any
kind, rlain directions accompany each box,
so that every one is his own competent physi
cian. Remember, none are gemtinc sold by

The repeated changes m the atmosphere, by act
ing as itiiy do upon the consistence arid qualfty of
the blood, give occasion for the most fatal and ma
lignant disorders. The blood from a state of health
becomes stagnant and is plunged into a state of
corruption.
Thus it loses itsf purity: its circulation is impe
ded; the channels of life arc Clogged; the bowels be
come costive, and if not an immediate attack of

appetite, and a general debility of the whole frame
are sure to follow. - . .
It requires, the tempest and the tornado to bring

The great celebrity of this unrivalled Composi
tion especially in the Northern Slates leaves
the proprietor but little need to say any thing in
its favor; for it has beeri generally conceded to it,
that it is beyond all comparison the best remedy
for external complaints that has ever been discov
ered. Indeed the speed and certainty of its oper
ations have the appearance of miracles : as ulcers,
wounds, corns, fever sores, chilblains, white swel
lings, biles, piles, spWer and snake bites &-c.
immediately yield to its apparantly super human
influence. Thus if properly applied it will remove
an Inveterate, corn or break and heal a bile in five
days," -will allay and perfectly cure an ulcer in two
weeks ; and the most desperate cases of white
swelling thatcan be imagined, have been destroyed
by it in loss than two months.- In the bites of
poisonous reptiles its efficacy is truly surprising;
and even in the bite of a rabid dog, lor if applied
in time, its powers of attraction are so wonderful
that they will at once arrest the poison and thus
prevent it from pervading the system. It is like
wise greatly superior to any medicine Heretofore
discovered for the chafed backs and limbs of horses
for tetters, ring worms, chapped lips, and in
short for every external bodily evil that may fall
to the lot of marr or beast.
The proprietor has received at least a thousand
certificates and other documents, in favor of Ins
" Specific Ointment" upwards a hundred of which
were written by respectable members of the Med
ical Faculty; and in selecting from this pile tho
following sarrples, he was governed more bytheir
