What might have been a serious disaster
terminated very fortunately at Young's
candy store last Monday evening. Mr.
Young trimmed a lighted lamp in the front
of the stove, and before-. finishing the job
had occasion toleave the room a moment.
When ho returned ~framea,weris running
along the lower shelves, Cwhiels are covered'
with fancy paper, making quite an alailni
ing blaze. By smothering the fire at once
with a blanket, hoivever,f no serious dam
age was done, but had he remained out.of
the room a few minutes the fire might have
got beyond control. It seems a spark, frops
the wick led fallen into ti roll of cotton on
the' shelf, which caused the fire. Moral—
trim your lamps first and light thorn after
