A young man named A. W. Jackson repre
sented himself as the son of a Mr. Spalding,
a depositor in the Mansfield bank, 'Tioga
county, Pa., and received the money on a
forged note, Mr. Ross the banker followed
him to Towanda on. Saturday list Officer
Buena arrested Jackson pad as he was du
ishing his dinner at the Ward Rouse. Re
was accoMpanied by "his girl" and lingered
so long over the dessert that the officer inter
rupted his enjoyment of a Second piece of

The next meeting of the Chautauqua Lit
erary and Scientific Circle will be held at the
residence of Mr. EL 8. Smith, at the foot of
Chestnut street, Friday evening December
9, at 7 o'clock. rbe Itsson for the evening
will be a review of " Man's 'Antiquity and
Language "—Chautauqua text book No. 29=
from the first to the fifty-second page, inclu
sive: The first 25 questions on "Man's An
tiquity," as contained in the Chautauquan
for December, will he used in the review. It
is expected that the next meeting will be
one of unusual interest and a full attendance'
of members in requested. Essays on various
subjects will be read by different members
of the Circle. All who are interested in the
Circle work are cordially invited to_ be pre
sent.
On Tuesday afternoon last, toward evening,
an old stage' horn wrs beard in the distance,
and as it came nearer, it was observed to be
a uew stage loaded with men, which had putt
been run out of the paint shop for F. T. Bil=
lings, while on his team Was a new harness
made by Asa Nichols in this place, while the
stage was made and ironed by W. D. Chaffee,
and painted and trimmed in goOd style by B.

CARBOY RUN:
As our little town has not been heard= from
for some time, I take the liberty to Bead 3oti
a few items of interest. We are a quitit, hard
working people as a general rule, consequent
ly there is not much to write about. Occa
sionally some of our old inhabitants move
away, and new ones Come in- to take their
places.
Of the former, Mr. J. H. Crook and family
have gone to Tyler, Clearfield comity; ale) Mr.
James Cronk and family, of Foot of Plain, to
the same place. Mr. Charles, McGee, oar
congenial engineer of the /Lucy, has left on
account of ill health, we understand. •
Mr. John Fassett has been so fortunate as
to secure his (McGee's) position, and is giv
ing entire sstisfactian. Mr. Fassett is an
honcet, energetic man and a thorough
neer. We wish him success. _
