firm of Foot & Ellis, died at his house on
Washington street, at 4a. m., Dec. 30th. • ---
Mr. Foot was one of our most worthy citi
zens: Born at New Milford, Pa., of sturdy pip
neer stock, on the 28th of March, 1835, he died
too soon by a generation of years. He volun
teered early in the late war of the' Rebellion :
and was mustered in First Lieutenant_ot the
50th • Regiment; Pennsylvania Volunteer 1
Pantry ; oti the 9th day of September, 1861, an I
after the Severest service in the, malarial region
of the Albemarle River, he yielded to the neces
sity of a. . broken constitution and was honora
bly discharged upon surgeon's certificate, Feb
ruary' 17, 1863. His death re.ally begins from
the date of the campaign pt that Tear,althongh

Reese James, aged 'l6, who fatally stabbed
two men at .Taylorville, Luierne county, some
months sinte, has been cpvicted of murder in
the second degree, antentenced to 19 years

penitentiary.
