it is also true of all kinds of beartsome greeting,

How TO Pusn BUMESS.—One of our' ex
changes very pertinently remarks that there'
are a great many old fogies—notably too many
-who entertain unsound iaesejot,,hoW•to push,
business. . Rather than invest a'few dollars in
making . their business known through the Pub
lic prints, they sit, on their haunches Ind wait
for people to find them out, When approach
ed upon the subject of advertising, they'will
repli that it doe,s' not pay to adyeitise, and yet
this very 'declaration is disproved by every'ar
tide that is placed in Abelr shim windows or
thatis hung up in. front of their, store's. Tio:
man .that says-it don't pay to advertise is doing
it in.-some way all, the time: If - a merchant

out% ifem notices; that not one .in fifty will stop
to read, Or go to the printers and have a_lot of

tisement in the papers, If you are in need of

plenty :of customers -next morning , to fill the
'place. If ) rott are; huiiness any - land, is It
not better to' keep yourself before the, public eye
in your home .paper by an , advertisement that
will stare , your friends and customers every
day, rather than the old fogy idea of_ `_!Oh, they
'all know me ?" ' -
But, says Mr. Ulosefist, advertising coats
money. Very true and so does everything
else rand it , is a good thing for you that adver
tising does cost something.. If it did not, ev-
ery little worthless concern would stand as.
good a chalice of being known as the very
%est and most useful. If you wart the people
to know that you have anything to sell; adver
tise in your home paper first, then in yoitr
neighboring papers. The man who has a. rep.
utable business and spends the most in a liber
al system of advertising, is the' one who makes
the most money. This is a truth well verified
by those who have tried it. Those who `don't
believe it have just to cast about in their own
town, and they will find that the most prosper
ous business men are they who advertise liber
ally and judiciously:
The fall of a 'most important, year is now
Opel:dug- to the _business ; world. People have
wants now jutt as many' is they have in pros
, perous tlmes. They_ will buy,,and will be'sure
=to 'go to these who offer thebest bargains. And
the way to make these mixtt., widely known, is
frequent announcement through the papers.—
Try 'the experiment.
