TAKE CARE OF THE -PENNIES.-Look well to
your spending. No, matter how much comes
in, if more goes out you will always be poor.--
De art is not making money, but in keeping
it. Little expenses, like mice in a barn, when
they are many, make great waste. Hair, by
hair heads get bald ; straw by straw the thatch
goes off the cottage, and drop droP the rain
comes into the chamber. A b lis soon emp
ty if the tap leaks but a drop a minute.. When
you mean to save .begib with your mo th f
many thieves pass down the red lane. Th ale
jug is a great waste. In all other things keep
within compass. Never stretch your legs fur.
ther than the blankets will reach, or yob will
soon be.cold.
.In clothes choose suitable and ,
lasting stuff, and not tawdry fineries: To be
warm;* the main thing; never mind the looks.
A fool, may make money, but it . takes a wise
man to, spend it. Remember it is e asier to
build two chimneys than to keep one going. -r
- If y,nu give all to back and board, there is noth
ing left for the savings bank. Fare hard and
work bard when you are young, and you have
a chance to rest when you get old.

WE TAKE pleasure in calling the attention of
our readers _to the fact that the popular Dry
Goods hbuse of , C. F."SissoN & Co., Bingham
ton, are now receiving an unusually large and ,
complete assortment of new spring goods. 'Not
withstanding the cry of "hard times," _this
house informs Its that their trade is larger than
at any former season. This is easily accounted
for by the fact that they always offer the most
reliable goods at . the same prices that many
houses sell a vety inferior grade, All tht,,nov
elties of the season,-both of toreign and do
mestic manufalture, may now be found upon,
their shelves, arid a visit to their store, will con
vince anyone that that is the place to trade.

AN oriental traveler describes this busy scene
witriessbil on historic shores : "Our steamer
landed on a beach which was the port of An
tioch, ivhere the disciples were first called
Chrtstiars. There was no town at the watees
edge, no peoplit no wharf. The passengers and
the merchandise were put ashore in lighters,
which ran up into 'the sand. A. troop of cam
els, with their ilrivers, lay on the beach, ready
to transport the goods into the interior.—
Among the articles landed were boxes marked
"Dr. (LIU. Ayer it Co., Lowell, Mats.,ll. S. A. "
showing that they contained medicines arid

were hoisted orb the backs of camels, tor trans
