—Some inquiry having been
,mades of us by
s bscribera in - regard to the 'responsibility of'
f;
rm fenctrg, and the liability for trespass by a
neighbor's cattle,, we, will take this method of,
answering. By a decision, of the Supreme
dourtof this. State, a case of trespass:will not
lie unless the, field is fenced upon all sides with.
a good substantial fence at leasefive feet high.
This fence must be kept up 'along the road as
well as on any other part of the farm. Tbe'

Oscine of a line fence. even which Le'or -s gs to

heves him from being a trespasser if his cattle
nt,er his neighbor's field .at that point; The
aw provides a way . to compel the buildingeof
ine fences and until this is complied with, no

ilction of trespass can be maintained. Under
he old English law, fences were erected to
eep cattle in and owners were heldresponsi
e for all the damage they did to their neigh
ors regardless of fence. But it seems the.
ennsylvania Supremo? Court have reversed
his law and made fences necessary for the pur
ose of keeping:a neighbor's cattle out. This
May be considered a better law,but it appears
I to us' to -be poorer common sense. A little
wholesome legislationnpon this subject is cer
tainly demanded. '. '
