Eighteen Guilty Wives-
Viesxa, FeLV 11-:- A story of
w holt sale murder recches here from
a tm:ill village in Hungary. It ap
pf.ars that there were a large num
ber cf uufailhfnl wives in the village,
who were desirous of ridding them
Bahresof their husbands iu order that
they might the more easily carry on
their laisons with their lovers.

Widows in Washington-
Especially is it (Washington) a
fjreat place for rich widows with
daughters that peculiar type of
American women, who, as soon as pa
terfamilias is comfortably tucked
away under the sod, fly to Europe,
sper-d years wandering about like.so
citd Bedouins, then are seized with a
romantic form of home-sickness, eays
the Illustrated American. But they
can't ttand Porkopolis and Kalama
zoo and West Jersey after Paris and
London and Vienna, and Washing
ton affords a convenient stop -gap. It
is American in location, European in
habits, and, to a degree, in personnel.
So they como here, buy a fine house,
get in with the diplomatic corps and
the thing is done. And Washington
which professes a lofty scorn for
trade, and ruthleesly shuts the doors
of society in the face of all Washing
ton brokers, insurance agents, real
estate people, and, in short trade in
every form except banking, welcjiaes
with open arms the retired trades
people from New York, Chicago and
acj u here else on the face of the
globe. It reserves the right of laugh
ingr at them, though, and after faith
fully attending all tbeir luncheons,
goes home to roar over every slip the
ombitious host or hostess has made.
This habit is undoubtedly an effront
to hospitality, but it has one saving
virtue Washington makts use of
rich r eople. but it is not afraid of
them. Capital.

Son Shoot3 his Father-
The Huntingdon Globe of tho 11th

At a few minutes before 7 o'clock,

the ball penetrating the right breast

was the culmination of a drunken de

threatened the members of his fami

miserable.
On tbe night prior to the unfortu

Tho wounded man was put to bed
and Dr. Harmon was sumraooe !, who
quickly responded, and found the

His rugged constitution, how-.ver, is
much in his favor acd he is gractUfl

Shortly after the occurrence young
Jletkbiugh voluntarily resigned him
self into the hnnd cf the nutlioritits

a habeas corpus bearing before tho
