MORMOI MISSIOH ARIES.
Two Mormon preacheis visited
Lewisiasn aod Huntingdon last week
looking for a foot-bold to start mis
sionary Mormon work in oentr&l
Pennsylvania. It is true that about
half the people in central Pencsvlva
nia do not have church connection,
bat while that is true it is net prob
able that the people who aro not con
nected with churches, will desire to
connect themselves with a church like
that of tbe Mormons. There are
men inside and outside of chnrch cir
cles, who do not hesitate to have one
and two and three women, end at Ihe
same time condaun such practices.
and when such paopla fail to connect
theaaaelycB with a polygamous church,
there is no earthly chancu for Mor
moo missionaries to get a start in
tho highlands of Pennsylvania. The
missionaries did not visit Juniata
county. This county is too orthadoz
for them to think of stopping here.
Robbed 1st si Car.
Ira O. Bleecher of QaarrTTille.
Lancaster county and Morris Davis of
Harrisburg wero west and had come
east as far as Livristown Junction
on the 26th of October. Between 12
and 1 o'clock on the morning of the
27th of October they determined to
continue their j jurnev, and with that
ODjeoi, in view tiiy looked up a
freight train that waa jaat pulling
out of tho Lewis'.own station east
ward bonud. ThfT entered a freisht
box car, sat down, lit cigarrettes and
began to smoke. When they lit their
eigarr6Us, tUey guv that tbe car had
otner occupanta. They had scarcely
commenced to smoke till ose of the
other occupants of the car lit a piece
of tallow orsperra candle, and then
tboy noticed that there were four
other persons ia the car, two colored
men, a whito man Uias aslesrj and a
white boy nbiut 19 years old. In
less timo than it has tskea to tell
this narrative of their misfortunes,
the iTro coicrsd icen and th boy

and a razor ia his hand. One of the
colored aisa pulled cut a revolver,
and said: "Hold up your hands.
They held up thoir hands. Tho pis

boy held the light aid an open razor
their facea aud the second colored
man or Indian searched their clothes
In Bleecber'a peckst they found $33.
2o in money, a tcbtcoo pouch and
knife. They did not find money in
Davis' pockets, but took thersfroin
two peckst knives and a few other
trinkets. The robbery having been
completed the thieves opened the
car door and compelled their victims
to jump off the tram which they did
without injury to themselvea. All
that was quickly dsne as may be
learned from tho fact that it was
done while the tram was making the
distance of less than two miles be
tween Lewiatown station and Eixler's
signal station. Tho men wsre put off
tne train by the robbers clcse to Bix
lerls signal station and they hastened
to the tower where Uoraee L. Owen
was in char go as chief telegraph op
ralor. Bleecher acd Davis inform
ed Owen of the outrage aad he im
mediately despatched to this place
and to Harrisbnrg giviug an account
or tne transaction. Officers Uacken
berger and Weller at this place were
on the alert for the comics: of the
freight train, acd when it ceme they
speedily searched it and found a col

who were all arrested, and about 4

Davis had been sent to the Sqnire's
omce to make the charge and identi

identify him and he was released.
The white man was the man who lay
quietly in tbe car when they were be

pouch that belonged to Bleecher and
a pocket knife that belonged to Davis,
ana was sent to jail. He said he was
forced by the colored man bv threats
that they made to take the part that
