"Tou Bet'' Killed.
"You Bit" the famous pacing

with tho "hit in liis mouth," list
Thursday afternoon at this end of
the river bridge. It is said the rul
ing passion of people is s'rong in tha
las!, mom-cts of their lives. So it
was with "Yon Bet." .He wanted to
go, did go, and went down in a wild
runaway rrtca with David Anderson
on his back. The flyer belonged to
William Murray and II. G. Patterson.
On Thursday altcinoop David An
dtraon rods the horse east of town
for exorcise. " Whoa returning to
town the beast laid out a race for
himself. Ho west" like tho wind.
The boy on his back could not hold
hiss. The best he could do, was to
keep the beast in tho middle of the
road and shout lo people to get oat
&f the way. The clatter in the. street
brought people hastily to doors and
windows only to see horse and ridkr
vanish in the distance like a phan
tom. Down Washington street and
Bridge stJeet went the horso. end
rider, the beast making 20 feet
leaps evtry'time. A miss leap on the
eanfd bridge aud the horse stnmblcd,
bat so great was the momentum at
wi-ich he was moving, that he did
not come quite down, but pitehed
forward into the river bridge where
he struck an upright pillar and roll
ed over on the floor of the bridge
with one side of his bead smashed and
broken front leg. The yonng man
Anderson was thrown as if from a
catapult, but fortunately was not hurt.
The career of "You Bet" was over.
The beast was shot to put it oat of
misery.
