fell on Monday.
While helping to clear a freight
wreck, one day last week, at Thonip
soriown, the chain on a derick broke
and a pWv? of the chain struck Allen
Rob: 'ou, of Patterson, on the head
breaking the outer shell of the skull,
but asside from tho effects of the
f.tnn he was not seriously hurt. The
blow in the skull was not deep enough
to make a permanent pressure on his
b.ain. He was in bed a few days
but is now able to be up and is do
ing very well, considering all things
in the case.

The Veterans of Walker township,
will meet nt Van Wert, school bouse
on the evening of the 23rd inst,
where all veteran are invited and are
expected to givo a reminicence of
their army life. A geographical
sketch of their grand march to Chan
Bellorville battle field will be given,

County Commissioner Win. II.
Moore, is looking for the pretty
woman who passed a guard at the
court house under the name of Mrs.
Harry Moore Harry is a bachelor.
So many women passed themselves
off on the guards stationed at the
court horse doors during the murder
trial, as Mrs. Lyon, that, tho guirds
were astonished. They had never be
fore heard of more than one Mrs.
Lyons. The object of the women
using the name of Mrs. Lyons was
to secure admiss:on to the court
room.
About 8 o'clock on Sunday even
ing a fir broke out in a kitchen that
stood almut 20 feet east cf the dwell
ing house on the E. S. Parker farm,
on the south side of Patterson. The
fire soon caught the house, and it
fell a victim to the fl imes. The houe
was of logs, weatherdmarded. and
burned nil niglir. Tho house was on
the site of one of the oldest settle
ments along the river, that was mad
by a man named McClellan. There
is a tradition that McClellau's house
and barn were swept away by a flood.
Charles Earnest tho tenant on the
farm succeeded in getting his house
hold affects ont of the house, except
ing a couple, of bedsteads, some meat
and a can of lard. For awhile dur
ing the progress of the fire the small
children of the family were happed
in bed clothing some distance from
the burning house.
