Bloomfield Advocate of Mrch 29: On last Monday forenoon as Clinton Wentzsl ani Samuel Gutshall of Blain were returning home from a fox hunt, when near Stoke's mill, Wentzell slipped and in an attempt to keep from falling knocked his hand against the hammer of his gun and discharged it, tha load striking Gutsbail near the right ear, blowing off his hat and knocking him down. Wentzel seeiug his partner falling and the blood streaming from his head, although himself bluoned by the explosion and greatly excited, summoned Dr. F. A. Gutshall, who dressed the wound and picked out the shot, several of which were flat tened by striking the skull bone. His hat was almost torn to pieces, and the Dr. says had the load struck him one-fourth of an inch " further forward it would have been instant death. Newport Ledger, March 30. Last Saturday this community" was star tled to learn that a web-known and supposed upright citizen had proved to be a thief. The man alluded tj was George Zeigler, who for years had been the trusted clerk of W. II. Bosserman in his grocery store on Fourth street. When Mr. Bosser- man sold the business to J. C. Mover & Co., the new firm retained Mr. Zeigler as clerk, and placad implicit confidence in his honesty. Some time since the clerk was suspected of appropriating goods, especially but ter, to his own use and sending it to distant points, tho money for which he never accounted for. It was tho business of Mr. Zyigler to travel through portions of the country on stated days, to gather np butter, eggs ami other piodace, and givo groceries and other goods iu ex change. Friday was his day to trav el through Terry Valley, on which trip he gets a goodly quality of fine butter Mr. Sieber did a little de tective work, and caught his clerk in the act of shipping two baskets nf butter. When confronted with evi dence of his guilt, Zeigler broke com pletely down and confessed to the theft. He was not arrestad but tak en o the office of lawyer Sharon. The casi was settled by Zeigler for faiting one month's f alary, and giv ing his noto f-jr sum sufficient to sat is!;, Mover & Co., for goods taken. The man was allowed to go to his home and he tok the first train for Harrisburg. Sunday moruiug he re turned. During the dav packed np such goods as he could take with him, an 1 left again p.t night.
