Sunbury Damocrat, February 27: Northumberland was thrown into a fever of excitement, Sunday after n ion by the announcement of the finding of an infant's body under the , ico in Deep Run, Point township. Jerome Dreese, an employee on the farm of William Mertz, took the horses to tha run to water them. While cutting a hole in the ice, he saw an infant's body. It was taken out and found to be a female child. A cord was tied around its neck, and two hoi i were ii the back of tt boad. A sponge that evidently had been in the child's mouth was at tached to the cord. Justice Vincent held an inquest, and the jury was composed of Messrs. Newberry. Colt, Peters, Mertz and Bright. Tceir verdict was that the body was thrust under tho ico by persons from Mil ton or Danville. There are no clues as to who committed the fonl deed, and nearly everybody hao a theory rs to now the deed was done. Some Ihink that the sponge was put in tho child's mouth to suffocato it, and others that it was saturated with chloroform or ether and fastened to the ncse causirg death. It is also impossible to tell how long the body has been under the ice, and uuless fonio new evidence turns up soon the murderers will never be ducovered. The child was murdered a short time after its birth. Lewistown Gzttte: We hear it stited that the Roman Catholic Church is about to start a parochial school in Lawistown.
