The funeral of the aged mother of
Wm. B. McCahan, of Milford town
ship, took place last Saturday. In
terment in the cemetery of the Lick
ing Creek Lutheran congregation.
Dr. H. P. Derr, late of Mifflinburg,
has located permanently in Mifflin
tewn, for the practice of dentistry.

fied. Charles Allen, of Patterson, had a
thumb and two fingers crushed while
coupling cars in the Mifflin yard, one
evening last week. Dr. Dowd Craw
ford found it necessary to amputate
the thumb. The two fingers can be
saved.
H. C. McClellan, at his business
place in the Odd Fellows' Hall build
ing, can sell you a new pattern, full

Rev. M. L. Drum, of the Methodist
church, has been conducting, or has
been helping to conduct religious

Professor J. Walker Patterson, for
merly of Academia, this county, was
killed while crossing a railroad track
at Potomac station, on the Baltimore
and Ohio railroad. He was waiting
to take a passenger train and was
not quick enough in getting out of
the way of the engine of a train that
he had mistaken for the one he was
waiting for. The bumper of the en
gine pilot struck him in the back and
knocked him across the platform.
His back, and neck were broken.
Death was instantaneous.
The Juniata Valley Canning Com
pany, the past year expended $19,000
for plant and fruit and grain. They
are talking of enlarging the plant so
that next year, seventy-five acres of
corn will be required, seventy-five
acres of tomatoes, and seventy five
acres of peaches and berries and
other stuff. The past season they
put up 7,204 bushels of peaches,
1186 bushels of apples, 45 tons of
corn. 5,57? quarts of grapes, zU uusn
els of quinces, 32 bushels of pears,
14 bushels of plums, 239 quarts of
blackberries and 100 bushels of to
matoes.

In attempting to board the rerr
car of train No. 3. at Port Royal, on
Sundsy morning at 4.32 o'clock, Dr.
G. M. Graham missed his foothold
He held to the step rail with his
hands, and a brakeman tried to pull
him on but failed. When the brake-
man let go of the doctor to pull the
bell to stop the train, Graham fell to
the track. The train was stopped
acd the doctor was taken on board
but 39 hours after the aocident. Tha
funaral was held from the residenoe
of Asa Patton on Sunday. The lad
was an orphan, his father the late J.
H. Eberaole, of Liverpool township
having be n killed some six year,
ago, while at work wood-chopping
and peeling bark in the mountain by
a tree falling on him.

has been granted to thi Lancaster
and Philadelphia Electric Railway
Company, which runs from Lancast
er, along the Philadelphia and Lan
caster turnpike to Philadelphia. Sin

An exebaneresays: There is a won
derful coincidence in the deaths of
Hon. J. B. Packer, who represented
this district in Congress, and Gener
al B. F. Butler. Both spent the
evenings pleasantly with friends ;
their illness came on in precisely the
same way about the midnight hour,
and both were found in the bath
room adjoining their bed chambers
where tney had gone to discharge
slight hemorrhages. They lived
about the same length of time after
the attack came on.

to the estate of Jacob Lemon, dee'd,
adjoining the Ard mill in Milford
township, was sold at public sale in
the Court House, on baturday, to J,
Bardell, for $1,625. There is a house
and barn and peach orchard on the
place. A tract of 3 J acres belonging
to same estate was sold to J. Jiardell
for $G1.50. A tract of 93 acres of the
same estate was sold to J. Bardell
for $251. A stone quarry between
Mifflintown and Lewistown was sold
to Wm. Rickenbacb, for $11. The
half interest of the deceased in

Dowd Crawford was comincr home
from Philadelphia, and took the case
immediately in band, and had Gra
ham made as comfortable as possible
in the railroad hospital at this sta
tion. Dr. Graham bad a number of
scalp wounds from which he bled
profusely, and those who saw him
carried into the hospital believed he
could not live. He is doing well, all
things considered, and will soon be
himself again.
Bloomfield Advocate, January 25:
Corn seems to be exceedingly scarce
in this county, so much so that it is
being imported from different points
by the car. Joseph Flickinger,
Esq., of Juniata towuship has in his
possession a meat vessel, holding
about 800 pounds of pork, that he
has bad yearly in use for 53 years
and bis father before hiia for 17
years. The vessel is in good condi
tion, and has received no repairs ex
cept a few hoops. Gilliland &
Rearick, of this place, within the last
month or so have purchased the
skins of 450 wild animals, all taken
with the exception of a small nunr
ber within a radius of a dozen mile s
of this place. Of the above number
ene is a beautiful wild cat skin, 50
fox, 50 skunks, 12 mink, 30coons and
the rmainder are oppoaaums and
muskrats. Four bear skins were re
ceived on Tuesday from Milroy, Mif

On Saturday morning when Samuel
Snyder entered the sleepincr room of

clothes saturated with blood. It was
discovered that there was an attempt
to commit suicide. Wounds were
found on the neck, arm and abdom
en, produced by sharp instruments.
A part of the left foot was severed
A hatchet was used to make this
wonnd. Mr. Snyder has been ill for
some months, and lately there has
been a failure of his mental faculties,
which culminated in this attempt at
suicide. He is now in a critical con
dition. On Sunday evening about
5 o'clock the unfortunate man died.
