From the Bloomell Times: It
seems to be pretty well established
that there is a gang of horse thieves
organized to oerate in Perry aud
adjoining counties. Last month two
horses were stolen from from Mrs.
S. A. Kern, of this county, but the
thieves did not sncced in running the
animals to a place of safety, and
they were recovered; but during the
last few years some valuable horses
have been stolen from the county.
Ou the night of the 10th inst., two
horses were stolen from the btable
of Rev. John Foglesonger, four miles
north of Shippensburg, Cumberland
I county. 1 hey were valuable animal i.
' On Saturday morning following the
I theft a large, rather roughly dressed
! mau stopped it the Merrimac House,
i Lancaster, with two horses, which
j correspondi-d with the description of
I the stolen animals. He was arrested
I and proved to le the thief.
I Before lteing captured the fellow
had sold a saddle an 1 purchased a
new bridle. In Lis stockings were
found $154 and on his person were
j found a letter, two maps of Penusyl-
vania. a railroad guide and a book
containing memoranaa ot farmers
who Lave good horses and their lo
cations. As an instance one of num
erous entries is: "John Brown, near
J York, ten miles from Columbia, has
j two good H," the H"of course stand -j
iug for horses. It is aliogether like
ly ne is one or tne men who have
stolen a number of horses in the
border counties the past few months.
The thief will le tried at Carlisle
and receive his just deserts.
The mode of proceeding by these
thieves appears to be this: A uumber
of horses will be stolen in Juniata or
I Snyder county in the evwning and
then rushed across the Tuscarora
' mountain, then across Perry county
i to the Cumberland mountain, where
: they will be taken some distance into
j the mountain and kept there until
the excitement dies out, when thev
i will le turned over to other parties,
who will take them across the nioun-
tain into Cjmberlaud
ccuntv. and
then work them down to Baltimore,
where they are put up at horse sales
and disposed of. We have no doubt
