ed that when the convention of di
rectors, met in the court house on
Tuesday afternoon the room was
crowded. A majority of the politi
cians of the county were i--esent
The county is Democratic but the
presence of Mr. Anman in tin can
tiss as a third term candidate for the
regul.irs caused a gnashing of teeth
among a number of the faithful and
intensified the Independent element
to uncommon agitation, and as
c inseipience it was predicted that
Mr. Marshall a Republican would be
elected by the Convention. Howev
er when aI tlie cUns came in it was
discovered that the Republicans were
pot a'l anted on Marshall b it that a
r.uruber of them wolll.l support Car
ney. Then there was agoing to and

interests i f Aimiiu and Carney were
