Emergency trains are a new feature
of the Pt-onaylvania railroad man

and in a hurry to get away on a
wedding trip, or any one, or a number
of travelers v. ho cannot wait'for a reg

at a great speed, the frequency and
cost being regulated only by the

train is started out every stition on
the division of the road over which
the train is to run and every signal
operator, must notified of it, the num
ber of locoiuotivns given, the time .on
which it ia to run, and every tiin
in the path of the emergency train is
notified at the first station it reaches
that such a train ia ou the road and
if it is an urgent case all regular
trains must keep out of its way. All
this is accomplished by the free use

: The burning of a saloon in an In

which cost a life, will do tbe temper

more barm than anything that could
have been done by its enemies. I he
ashes of tbo saloon-keeper wbose txxly

will err aloud for veneeanca, and
every repectable man, whether he is

When "temperance' joins hands with

The telephone i a recent invention
that baa come into ue since the tel
egraph. People can bold canversa
tion when 25 and 30 miles and up
wards distant or separated while be
fore the invention they could not talk
to another party more than 4 or 5
hundred yrds apart and be under
stood. Tbe telephone wires are
electrified similar to tbe telegraph,
but are worked differently. Let a
man talk to another 17 miles away
by telephone, ud all can say it is a
truth, a fact. It is done every u-y.
Bat let him attempt to talk to an
otl.er 17 miles away without a tele
phone, and every person will eay it
cannot be done. ince it cannot us is
well known. Man is Vile and
sinful aud so inuoh so that tue BiWe
declares his righteousness to be as
filthy rags" and that 'there is uone
righteou-i.no not one." aud ovtry sin
deserves tne wrat h audjeurse of tiod
in this life and the next life. What
shall people in such positions do. A
solution is : Like tbe telephone i A
way to carry the short distance,
travellihg. weak, human voice, sue
cesafully for miles and miles so Christ
God's apKiuted way does redeem and
save sinful, unrighteous man, be
cause of nnrighteouBuess to weak
to reach heaven of himself even like
his voice is to weak to travel
20, 25 and 50 miles and more and e
beard without a telephone. Use tbo
telephone if you desire your wetk
voice to go a hundred miles. Liy
hold on Chiit f yon desire to be
.... -
heard 1U Ice k'tt-ul court ot heaven
and acqriitted by God. The tele
phono has power to convey a man's
voir a thousand miles, while with
out the instrument he ii enabled at
the best to ie the voice only three
or four hundred yards. Curi-st on
the other ban 1 nUbrngh it seems as
mysterious as the telephone, can
make the cause of siuners heard aud
accepted at the throne of Gtd, in olj
der that they should find alvi
tion wl.ilo they cacuot of them
selves make their petitions heard t
en to tbe heighth d the c'oudi
Something like mm a voice wituoiit
the telephone. Christ he!ps sinners
from their sius to acceptance with
God more certainly than the tele
phone helps the hum in voice into
distauce.
