The insect is what is known among agriculturifets as the "green midge," another species of which is the "red midge." The latter last appeared in this region about fifteen years ago, and did great damage to the grow ing wheat. The "green midge," the little destroyer which ts now doing such alarming work, has not been seen by farm ers siuco 1S65, when it almost entirely destroyed the wheat crop of Indiana and the neighboring states.
