Jefferson towniiliiji, Somerset Co.,
was the scene of a terrible double
tragedy hist week. Jacob J. Sknulis
the wealthiest farmer of that section,
some few years since married a young

did not relish the prospect of any
more heirs to participate iu the di

the old farmer was found by neigli

in the woods, a short distance from
his barn cold in death. He had left
the house at an early hour in the
morning. His young wife who
would shortly become a mother wns
returning from the barn tihortly af
ter her husband had gone to milk
the rows, when she heard the crack
of a ritle and she fell to the groun a
rifle ball having pierced her left side.
Aid was summoned a courier was
despatched to Somerset for a phy

by Dettctive T. J. Picking hastened
to the scene of the tragedy. The Dr.
attended to the wounded woman
while the Detective investigated mat
