W. Va-, under the management of U. R.
Ks, gave an entertainment in the Metho
dist Episi-opil Church in this place last
evenit'g. The songs, as well s their mn
nrr ol stngirg them, i a true rendition ol
the sti la and spirit, in which those songs
were sung bv devout negroes in days ol
'avery. The singing is pleasantly inter
spersed with remarks by the manager, add
ing to the interest of the occasion. Tho
tuor-ti effect of the entertaiument is good.

The Prohibition meeting held in tbe
Court House, a few weeks since, closed its
procea-dings with th following motion :
'Moved end carried that wa refrain from
plafirg a county Prohibition ticket lie fore
the people this campaign, hut due notice be
hereby givea lbt it is the sense ot tbe
present organisation that hereafter a lull
connly ticket may be expected, without
any consideiation of tbe affect it may have
on candidates of other parties."
Evidently the framer or that motion is a
novice in politics, and lack the wisdom of
tbe serpent and harmlessnes of the dove
in dealinr with rolitical iasne. The late
Koscoe Conkltng would style snch a politi
cal deliverance, "hunting rabbit with a
brass band." Calling to mind tbe service
rendered the canse of prohibition by the
Republican party, through it members of
the LcgUlature io passing tbe Prohibitory
Amendment : and knowing that the f.-tend
of the Amendment depend npon 'he Re-
publicans who may be elected to tbe next

Notwithstanding tbe uogracioua spirit
manifeated here and elsewhere in tbe state
by tmrd party prohibitionists, we believe
the Republican members ol the next Legis
lature will be true to tbeir party principles
reform morally, socially and politically
and will vote lor tbe second paassgu of the
A rueud unfit. Tnia will bring the question
ot Prohibition directly before the voters of
tbe state for their approval or r jectioa. Ii
the aiuendiueut ia adopted the question of
Prohibition will be settled for all time to
come, so tar aa Pennsylvania is concerned.
In that event the nomination of a third
rty ticketjon tbe prohibitory tsa ie, aa so
li ou need in the motion, would be parading
with a corpse, and be about as laughable a
farce aa the nomination of a ticket on an
auti aiavtry platform. Had the "one idea"
exclusive spir.t manifested in tbe above
motion dominated the advocate of prohi
bition to any great extent in this atate, and
in other atate wbre it has been adopted,
prohibition would be anong the reforms ot
