The Rattler Killed Him.
Mimi-his, Aug. 7. While two bovs,
Jackson Moore and John Harvey,
aged about seventeen years, were
hunting squirrels across "the river, in
Arkansas, yebterday, they discovered
v larg rattlesnake coiled upon a
rock, apparently asleep. Moore said
ha would capture the snake alive,
lie crept up to the deadly rattler,
and, by a quick movement, caught it
firmly below the head and held it
firmly at arm's length in triumph.
Suddenly the snake coiled itself
wound the boy's arm. He became
frisrhtened and attempted to throw it
off, when the reptile struck him in
the neck. Its fangs became fastened
in the flesh. The unfortunate victim
creamed with horror, and grasping
the snake with both handa tore it

nder tbe new license law throughout the
State, and there are 7,724 licensed houses
against 14 &o3 under the old law. There
were 1 1 ,690 applications, taking the whole
State, ot which about two thirds were
granted, although in Philadelphia two thirds
were rejected. The revenue from 14,661
licensed houses last year was $376,179.
Tbe revenue from 7.7S4 licensed honsea
this year is $1,835,963. In short, we have
one-half tbe licensed booses and doubled
revenue."
